Do we need a new file forum for SDK MODS?

Do you think we need to create a separate file forum for SDK mods? Currently we have some [SDK MOD] in the Modpacks forum and some in the Mod Components forum.

Let me know what you think. :)

Might not be such a bad idea. However...

I see an upside and a downside.

- It would be advantageous to have a subforum for SDK mods so that people can easily access them.

- It would be a disadvantage to other modders who cannot make SDK mods in a way because those who are specifically looking for SDK mods will go to that forum and won't traffic the current modpack forum. ;)

Just my thoughts. :)

I disagree since there are some SDK mods that are still just components and there are some SDK mods that are full blown mods.

You are most likely correct however I havent seen many threads advertising the use of the SDK. If there are more SDK modders they should change the thread title to say SDK MOD.

I agree with TheLopez. From a player perspective there isn't any difference between a mod that does or doesn't use the SDK. And the forum should be designed for the ease of the casual player (we long in the tooth folks will find our way around regardless) so keep them together.

Plus it will cause the mods that don't use the SDK to be ignored since they will be percieved as "not as good" regardless of their personal merits (which is a false assesrtion, you dont need the SDK to make good mods).

at first i thought it would be a good idea for a SDK mod forum. but after reading thelopez and kael's posts, perhaps we shouldn't make an "SDK mods" section, but maybe an "SDK/Python Learning Center" or something because there are only like 13 people who can do that stuff posting in the forums ;)

edit: i am aware that SDK is C++. for some reason i had to write this.

I agree with this line of thought. Someone will look for "Units Now Breakdance before being attacked" mod, not "SDK Mod" if they're looking for a mod to have the specified results. If anything, the folders should be broken up as they already mostly are, with each folder being a specific type of mod (full modpacks, mod components, civ-specific).

However, I still think that, for the sake of the users, that the mod-poster posts exactly what changes are made in the mod, preferably in their title for the post. If the changes are simply XML, then a player will know that they can probably merge this change with the previously installed mods quite easily. If the change is a new SDK dll (since the user doesn't know how to compile), this probably would be ignored, since you pretty much only get one dll, and can't mix and match code. Of course, this isn't an enforcable rule, more of a general idea that hopefully people continue to use and in greater numbers.

Although this might make people think a mod better or worse based on how it was made, it more importantly makes things easier for the user.

Yeah ithink you should create a new forum for SDK mods. its the first thing i look for when i log on

I also dont't think we need an extra subforum. For mod comps a [SDK] prefix in the thread title is good enough. For mods pack or composite mods it doens' t matter anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I will not create a SDK file forum for now then. If there is a need in the future, we can create one easily.
