Imean, when you look at american history the whole conservativ vs liberal balance seems to come in decades, lemme elaborate, starting with the 1920s

1920s - Conservative
1930s - liberal (cause of the depression)
1940s - liberal
1950s - conservative
1960s - liberal
1970s - liberal
1980s - conserative
1990s - liberal
2000s - conservative
2010s - ???

As you can see we are due for a nother cycle, and I think that were ahead for a new era of liberal rule, what do you think?

I do believe there is a cycle, but not all of your lists. For example, I wouldn't call 1994-2000 liberal. Maybe centrist since the Republicans controlled Congress and the Democrats controlled the Presidency. I think in 2008 both Congress and the Presidency will be Democrats, which will be liberal just like now the gov't is conservative (except for the Supreme Court, which is still centrist, but may change by 2008 to conservative). Of course I also used to equate conservative with fiscally conservative, which the gov't most certainly is not right now.

Couldn't you just replace it with "Democrat - Republican"? Would be more accurate.

Personally I think we should go back to hereditary rule, as long as I get to be the first emperor. Then we wouldn't have these foolish cycles.

I have to agree with you here, its time to start eliminating my enemies.

Well, here in Canada, we definitely have cycles. It goes:

10+ years of Liberals
6 Months - 1 year of Conservatives
10+ years of Liberals

:p

Looks like you have a good system compared to our crap we got here. god

It's not entirely realistic to group American politics into a cycle. There have been times when the three major branches of government have all been divided, and there has even been change over time in the parties policies themselves.

The biggest concern I have with this is that it basically is a mere two party system, and in many cases, people are just grouped into a party for the sake of argument.

What we need is someone to represent my politcal beliefs. Any volunteers?

NOTA ballots!

I'm talking about society overall. Think abot it, for example, the 1950s was a period of a lot of conformoty, consumerism, no womens rights, no black rights, aka a pretty conservative society. On the other hand 1960s was pretty liberal with all the civil rights stuff and the hippy movement. watch forest gump so you know what I mean/

I know you have conservative for the 2000's, but...

What would you say society is now? We have a conservative government that has increased the national debt, has partaken in an uneccesary war, and is disliked by the majority. Just wondering what you would consider today's society.

Yes. Big government gets bigger and more intrusive every decade.

Todays society is pretty conservative as you can see I wrote above. most of our society now rejects gay marriage and help to immigrants, even if they don't support george w bush. not to mention we are now very capitalisic with all the oil stuff and very consumerist. just look at our television and you can see what reflects our society

And I would tend to agree with that, just wanted your thoughts. Basically, our society is succombing to terrible things; massive capitalism and consumerism (television!). Anti-gay rights, etc., etc. Basically, you just highlighted everything that's wrong with our government (which is a lot).

I think imo it's mostly bush's fault and the fault of the republican party - AND the inaction of the democrats. bush COULD be impeached if the democrats weren't too scared to do it. but hell that's a new topic within itself.
