I have an idea, how about we work together as a group to find out who does something bad, and then punish them? Maybe by spanking their bare butt, back, and balls.

Only because of the brutality of the cocaine trade do I pause before singing "one of these things is not not like the other".

Yeah, I mean there's the cocaine trade, but at least it's not a real crime like dancing to a Lady Gaga song at your bat mitzvah.

That sounds like how people probably did things for 99% of human history.

I'd rather my daughter occasionally do coke than binge drink (though ideally neither), I have never nor do I plan to ever do coke, to me it's crossing a line, but acting like it's up there with rape or beating the disabled is strange.

    rofl...

The only pause I have on casual sex for women vs men, and this is a super variable-confounding issue (SO NO REASON to believe it's static or based on the sex itself), is that women's longterm happiness correlates negatively to more sex partners, with 1 lifelong partner being the highest. But again obvious confounding variables between slut-shaming to already-unhappy people can't keep a partner leaves it pretty murky.

I've never found much joy in casual sex personally. But I know some people who do.

As a kid, I said something mean to someone and got a beat down for it. That person absolutely did the right thing, I deserved it, and I'm glad it happened to me. I have no idea if in total it reduced the amount of harm in the world, and whether or not it did has no bearing on my opinion of whether or not I deserved it. I deserved it because I was being an *******, not because of some stupid utility function.

I've gotten hit in the face/head plenty of times for talking smack to people. I don't think they did the right thing. I don't regret any of the things I said, I don't remember them now but they must've been pretty funny/awesome for them to feel the need to clock me for them. Worst was when some huge 280lb kid at boarding school sucker punched me in the back of my head while walking out of a room. Hopefully I don't have any brain damage from that. Still, I remember feeling amused about the whole thing.

My dad only punched me in the face once. I remember actually being proud of him for expressing some goddamn emotion for a change instead of keeping it bottled. But I definitely didn't "learn" anything from the experience except that my dad was a resentful person but I already knew that.

Ok so, 1,400 metric tons of cocaine produced last year. 150k organized crime deaths in Mexico since 2006. A lot in Colombia/Central America, and the United States. Let's pretend it's 250,000. That's over 13 years so for the math say 12.5 years. 20k a year. Pretend they are allllll cocaine. related. Now that current production rate is 23% higher than the previous year, most years were under 1,000 metric tons. Let's say 1k metric tons a year. So 20k people died for 1 billion grams of cocaine. Some internet forum synthesis tells me 10 lines per gram. So 10 billion full doses.

So Narz if your kid does a line at a party, she killed 1/500,000 of a person. Maybe less if that gram was cut with baking soda or other agents.

I kind of hate myself sometimes because I really love the idea of casual sex with many different partners but by now I know the reality always falls short of the concept. But then I just blame porn for warping my fragile little mind ;)

Same... The idea of sharing love and affection deeply and freely is very appealing.

Are we going to assign blame for Chinese factory workers that jumped off the iPhone assembly plant roofs too? I mean there's a clear moral difference in my mind between the two issues but this breakdown muddies the issue. (And I do love the breakdown you did here)

Don't forget to factor in all the workers who are poisoned while assembling phones or by the suppliers of chemicals used in the assembly process. I doubt good statistics exist on that though.

If I were a big ol' burly man with a big burly white beard, would we still be discussing this? Or would you all be spanking my bare butt, back, and balls?

That's not really the coke's fault, it's the American governments fault for making it illegal.

Blame evolution for creating that mind.

If I had 10+ million dollars I would live that dream for a year or two. Get everybody STD tested, get a little harem going. I'd be curious whether I'd "get it out of my system" or get addicted to it.

I think my ideal would be a polyamours relationship with a rock solid primary who's bi & a couple times a month we go out & pick up a third party to play with. It's human nature to always want more but I feel like I could be pretty happy with that.

    Pics or it didn't happen!

Sure, and do the same for drug production... then add all other factors too.

Ok but it's still happening so involved parties are responsible for consequences.

I don't think it's enough to simply say an involved party is responsible, I have more strict criteria for moral responsibility than that.
