Hell yeah, I want to leave a legacy!

"Well, my life was going to s*** but then I read this post by Narz on this silly gaming forum on the internet and it changed my whole life. When I became grand dictator of the post-acpocolyptic New World Order I had his remains unfrozen, thawed and revitialized and honored him with a palace, 50 maidens and a "make your own version of Civilization" programming kit (where the player can duplicate parts of his own consiousness, add to them mathmatical infallibility, and program then into a superintelligent AI)."

Actually no wait, I'd rather make my own success.

I care more about earthy rewards then being remembered. I'd prefer chicks enjoy me while I'm here rather than fantasize about me when I'm gone.

    I like life.

Still, if I had the choice between people remembering and forgetting me, I'd like to be remembered.

Heh. The strange thing is, Narz, I feel your posts have helped me like no other poster on this board :)

Not a chance. If by some appalling quirk of fate, I am left
with ungrateful, mewling spawn, they will get nothing.

And whatever artwork I have created, I will burn it all before death.

    :)

Many people believe that the Afterlife and the Legacy you leave behind are one and the same thing.

What do you mean? The afterlife is not on earth, but the legacy is.

I care more about my legacy than my current appreciation.

Then again, it depends on what I become known for. I dont want to go down in history as a second hitler.

Let's take Albert Einstein as an example. Despite the fact that he is dead, he is still credited with new discoveries every day. Children learn about him in school, the spirit of his conscious existance continues even though he has died. The legacy he has left will continue on, his consciousness, his "basic axiom" will continue to expand as future generations adopt his "thought patterns" and expand them. In effect, although he is dead, Albert Einstein enjoys a robust and comfortable after-life despite the fact that physically, his flesh has passed away. Same with Jesus Christ. Dead, but Alive in a spiritual sense, his spirit given physical form through the individual surrender to Christ, the spirit of Christ dwells within the believer giving the spirit of Christ a physical body. Thus, Christ lives in the flesh, as the body of the faithful is the vessel for the spirit.

If you need further guidance, watch the movie Troy. How Achilles seeks immortality after death through the glorification of his name in battle. His afterlife, which will be judged by 'the gods' (ie us) to whether he is viewed favorably or not for his deeds as a warrior. The spirit of these individuals... like the founding fathers... gives precedent for our actions, thus they act... through the seeds planted in our hearts long after they are gone.

I care about leaving a legacy with the people I love. I also hope to be a positive influence on the future of mankind, but I am not bothered about being recognised for that.

There is such a place as heaven. I take offense at the opening post. Voted other.

I'd be dead, so I really wouldn't care.

@kenScott, there's a big difference between rememberence and reverence throughout the generations and the continuity of conciousness that an afterlife requires. ;)

I'd rather be forgotten than remembered for giving in.

"Victory is commemorated. Failure is merely remembered"...

    ...An old Warhammer adage.
