I've done it before, but I usually only do it if I'm having a difficult time with something, or if I'm finished the story part of the game, in free mode, and don't want to do some boring little task over and over.

Do you ever edit savegame files?

And am I the only one who spells it "savegame"?

I used to long ago in my Macintosh IIsi days but not anymore as save game files nowadays have much more information than in the 1990's.

Yep my main thing on EU2 was adding extra cultures once I had captured a region particularly when it would normally be worthless. For instance as Croatia early on I gave them Dalmatian culture as the already had one province with that culture and later on when I diplo annexed Bosnia I also gave myself their culture to give a reasonable number of cores. Also occasionally I've commented out events so that a large Burgundy doesn't suddenly give everything back to France.

Some games have elements that are broken or don't live up to expectations. There are certain events that will cause CTDs in certain circumstances which then requires the event files to modified. In other areas things like culture in EU2 are given for free to certain nations even though they may never rule over any of those territories whilst there are no events to gain cultures for small nations where its reasonable to assume that their power base would grow with their size. It would be a bit dull if every game consisted of invading Italy and Germany simply because they have rich provinces and initially few strong nations to defend them.

All the time. I just start the game, save it, and edit the save so I'll have already won! It's so much more fun than actually playing the game.

So, no.

Never changed a "savedgame" file but I often take advantage of that ingame world editor for Civ4. Usually to even out my land(hate haveing a hunk of land just out of reach of my culture and whatnot), and if I'm getting seriously beaten up more units. The unit thing is an obvious cheat but with the way the computer is I don't veiw most of the other things as such

"Don't live up to expectations"... ? Yeah whatever. Good thing we're machines built with a "justify this action to myself" chip in our brain.

Well done on focusing on a tiny percentage of the post. You win..:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Oh no I totally read all of your post. Your use of "Some games have elements that are broken or don't live up to expectations" is just the same as "where its reasonable to assume that their power base would grow with their size". It's you justifying your action to yourself.

If a savegame file has to be tempered with to fix a CTD (which has never happened to me), then alright, although that sounds like it'd be really amateur and subpar for a game to have an issue like that. I suppose you can claim to have a huge major title that requires this of you. Again, it never happened to me.
