... you to become members before you can view ANY of their pages?

It's like they have something to hide.

I've accidentally stumbled upon many forums but I can only think of one that works in such a way.

Nope. Their forum, their rules. Nothing suspicious at all about it. I tend to require that I at least know people before I give them free reign in my own home. Yes, I may let a stranger use the telephone, but I am sure not going to let them snoop around in all the rooms.

Yes, but this forum doesn't have that requirement. And it's not like it's CIA. It's a stupid Oscar watching site. And it's not a personal site like Facebook about private people.

My thinking is that they shouldn't be allowed.

If it is not a government or business site, it is indeed a "personal site" and they can do whatever they want with it.

*Blink* No offense, but who are you to tell someone running their own site what they can and cannot do.

It entirely depends on the forum and their justification. If they want it to remain a private forum, or help with security, then it's perfectly fine.

...what the hell? The internet is meant to be unregulated.

Can you find posts on the forum via google?

You can find CFC posts via google

No, you can't. I guess that's why.

I think someone here posted a link to bodybuilding.com forums where a poster's information was asked by the CIA(?) because he made death threats to the president?

Why allow some sites to be hidden from scrutiny?

It's not private. You can join. Anyone can join.

Look if CIA cant break the security of a bodybuilding site they don deserve the information.

That was only because they were informed by a fellow poster. The CIA (or was it the secret service?) looks into any threat it is notified of, regardless of how credible it is.

Why allow some sites to be hidden from scrutiny?

Because the internet is a place where the free market does, in fact, solve everything, and I mean this sincerely.

It's not private. You can join. Anyone can join.
What security measures do they require to register? If they don't have any, then why are you complaining?

It's sort of like a speakeasy. You don't want just anybody to know what is going on in there.

Yes, but WHY? Trust me, I've been there and there ain't nothing special there.

They think they know something special about the Oscars but they don't. They think they're experts on film but they're not. There are a lot of anti-Bush people there so one of them might make a faux-pas death threat.

There are no security measures. But I think they do extensive background checks before you can join. I'm complaining because I know that one of their fellow posters will not inform the CIA or anyone if there's any misconduct. They're all a bunch of sheep.

So now we get to your real justification. You want to de-censor them to sniff out angry liberals!

Ok but seriously, I'm not even sure that would be possible.

Other than the hilarious fact that you think that internet death threats by teenagers seriously should be reported all the time, ( ) perhaps that's just how they are used to it? Perhaps they want to stop searchbots or some crap? Is it really something important for a forum to cater to your need to lurk on a forum through government intervention?

If they have extensive background checks before you join, then there's your answer - they want to have a selective membership to prevent spambots or trollers and the like.

And informing the CIA about discussion on an internet forum outside of spite for the poster is ********.

Yeesh, no wonder you support Hillary...
