Do you get a warmonger tag for refusing to sign a Peace Treaty?

Does anyone know the answer to this? I've seen many discussions about the warmonger tag, and I haven't really seen this question asked. You can get the warmonger tag for declaring war multiple times, or doing a lot of damage to another civ. So does refusing peace offers also contribute to the warmonger tag?

I may be mistaken, but signing a peace treaty or not never changed the warmongering reputation for me. I get it after a few DoWs and it never goes away. Same happens if someone declares war on me and I decide to attack instead of just defending myself. In my case, after one capital is taken, the entire world will hate me, except the ones who were at war with the same player and this will stay until the end of the game.

Since were on the subject of warmongering;) A little cheat I've found is if you're the first to meet a city state, you can declare war on them with no adverse reactions. You can use them to gain experience. I've never gone ahead and conquered them, probably get plenty of hate then.

Sorry from deviating from the OP but your post makes me curious. I always wondered if declaring war against another civ early in the game (when you still haven't met other civs) would impact your reputation with them once you meet them. Do you have any idea? TY!

Your entire reputation precedes you. So, even if you meet your first neighbor, declare on him and take his capital and only city before meeting anyone else, you'll have the warmonger tag with everyone the moment you meet them.

Not true. Conquering a civilization before meeting any third party civs does not make others label you as a warmonger once you meet.
However lying about declaring war instead of passing through with your units will give a diplomatic hit with all civs, even those you haven't met yet. This also might be the case of declaring war/denouncing a friend.

I'm almost 100% sure it is true, because I had a recent game where I declared war exactly one time: super early to take Mongolia out since he was 9 tiles from me with like 8 horses available and I didn't want to deal with keshik swarms later. I had only met 3 total of 7 AIs when his one and only city fell to me. I was not at war for the remainder of the game for any reason. I had the warmonger penalty with all 7 AIs for the rest of the game.

I distinctly remember being annoyed about it because it impacted the gold I got from deals the entire game.

edit to add: And there weren't any diplo shenanigans involved. I met him. A turn later I saw his culture. I built 2 more warriors and 2 bowmen, marched over and declared. No DoF. He didn't ask why my units were on the way, so no duplicity there.

AI will always tag you as warmonger if they don't like you, if you are denounced, then it starts a snowball effect if you are denounced by the person whom they have a DoF with, so if it starts linking, you are in for a lot of Guarded AIs.

I've never seen the OP's question answered definitively, but I think a lot of people believe you take a small hit for refusing a generous peace offer. I can't tell and I've never seen the files.

I'm very sure you don't take a warmonger hit from civs that haven't met you before the crime. On mid to lower difficulties you can grab your whole continent with no penalties if Polynesia isn't in the game. Even if they are, you'll only take a hit with them.

The answer to the original question is an emphantic NO. AI doesn't care about that at all, what it cares about are those that declare war and those that apply the coup de grace to a civ (even if someone else took all their other cities first).
This includes city states; so woe to the person who DOWs a city state and then conquers it.

Some AI's are just naturally guarded. One time I had Dido guarded against me as OBSERVER.

No, It happens if you kick ass in a war... even if they DOWed you and deserved it.

I am now considered a warmonger after declaring war on a city state and subsequently taking it. Is this not harsh? seen as I was never at war until then.

I only took the city state as the Dutch were about to and I didn't want them getting too powerful/close to me.

City state conquering is pretty much auto-warmonger to the AI civs that care (some do not). Better would have been to let the AI conquer the city, DOW the AI and liberate the CS for influence.
