Compared to the calendar dates in the pedia for the various eras, I never seem to get to the ancient era by 12000 BC, and I am usually quite late on getting to classical which is supposed to be by 1200 BC. Even if I don't make sedentary lifestyle first, I am usually first to classical lifestyle nevertheless. These trends put me way behind with getting into medieval era by 450 AD, but then I usually catch up to the pedia calendar in the renaissance/industrial era.

Here is a list of the last games of C2C I have played with dates for when I hit an era, and you can also see the map and map size, game speed, and level to see if that affects timing.

The questions for C2C:
-Are other people experiencing similar?
-If not, thoughts and tips on ancient/classical tech? My one thought was it may be related to lack of animals -> myths as I play smaller maps. The largest map I played was the one I was earliest on and I had hundreds of animals captured (this was also one of the times I played a slower speed).

Hah, there was someone just complaining about the calendar being too fast (entering Ancient around -20,000 to 40,000) a week ago or so

Truthfully, the calendar is basically a glorified turn counter, and thus very hard to balance to where it 'should' be because it varies wildly based on game settings. See the discussion if you're interested: https://forums.civfanatics.com/thre...ussions-thread.377892/page-1010#post-15931201

Thanks - that is a good thread. Even though last week there are 1000 pages in that thread!

The calendar can only ever be 'synced' with one difficulty rank. Other options affect it unavoidably too.

That said, the penalty to research in starting civics has been increased to 75%. This will tend to cause Prehistoric to be longer for the player. The effect may be greater on slower gamespeeds. Of course it's a bug, but it's an intentional one.

Is it normal to be so, so late on the other civs to get sedentary life ? I'm talking -10000 and I'm pretty far away

I'm playing on noble and yet in -20000 on a simili-Pangea, Mali was already building the 3rd town.

EDIT: Oh ok the first city building unit is the tribe, my game is still very slow though

Noble is EXTREMELY EASY, try Monarch or Emperor.

Tech leader reaching Sedentary Lifestyle in 12 000 BC is good pace.
That is you should spend 0.1% of game per tech on average.

Yeah I just don't know how to play at all, this is my very first game. I'm playing with the setting that makes every building and tech 40% longer or smth though. I absolutely do not see how reaching Sedentary Lifestyle before 8000BC is possible, I'm at 9000BC, probably tech leader (although on an island) and not even through chiefdom.
While I'm here, what are the requirements to build remains ? It's the access to a ressource or the subdued animals ?

Remains needs subdued animals - they can place buildings.

Yes but for example, I need to collect 3 mammoths to build remains. I captured them all and escorted them to the city but it displays 1/3 mammoths :/ even when I group the units btw

You need to place that in three different cities
You can have only one building X in each city.
So 1/3 mammoth means needs to be placed in 3 cities.

There are buildings, that require building in multiple cities - I think its vanilla stuff - some wonders require buildings in multiple cities.

I think you need 1 mammoth and 3 cities, because you need 3 myth effect buildings.

Ok, thank you both !
