Do you listen to music while you play?

I'm getting bored of the in-game music. It's really good, especially Bulgaria's, but there aren't enough songs. I'm thinking I'll listen to the civ 6 soundtrack now. Recommendations? I listen to many different genres of music but when I'm playing civilization I want to hear civ music if you know what I mean.

I usually watch TV while I’m playing, so the only other music I hear (besides the in-game music) is background music from the TV shows and obnoxious, annoying #%+*} ad jingles.

I tend to have either Spotify/YT Music on, or a YT video or podcast. Civ is perfect for those kinds of things.

I still mostly listen to the civ 7 soundtrack. There are certain times of day/week I like to stream my classic music station. It goes well with civ. But generally I'm a big fan of always keeping in game music on, it's part of the experience.

As much as I like the Civ VII soundtrack for the most part, I do find it a little tempting to somehow swap the music with VI's equivalent tracks. The sheer variety is beautiful, and the evolution of the different themes over time is just a work of art.

This, this, a thousand times this!

One podcast I love is the BBC's "in our time" podcast which has some excellent episodes on world history.

"And now a few minutes of bonus material from Melvin [dramatic mini pause] and his guests". I love In Our Time (definitely a Civ player's podcast) - I hope they get Mishal Husain to replace Melvin Bragg when/if he eventually decides to retire. He's definitely not as forthright with the guests as he used to be so I'd hope she'd use her interviewing skills to bring back some of that repartee.

This but with Civ V, and more about adding those tracks to the pool rather than replacing.

Surprised that with all the modding possibilities from V to VII, music is the one area where we haven’t seen many developments.

I wanted to but it proved way too daunting for me with the time constraints I have. I just want to have the "ambient" tracks back.

I loved the music in VI, but have found myself sometimes switching the music in VII off. I also dislike you sometimes just get Hawaii/Japan/whatever even though they are not in the game.

Another complaint I have is that VI had built-in silences. VII seems to have a playlist on a constant loop.

Also, just do it like Stellaris did; add a music player.

The main issue I have with the soundtrack is there are way too many vocal-oriented tracks, which I find super distracting. The repetition is also a biggie.

I turned it off and play my own music, or like others, previous Civ games or related soundtracks. Sometimes I’ll play a Civ stream.

Overall it’s really good, so if they fix these issues (or at least allow me to nix certain tracks) and I’d probably turn it back on.

This is the first 4x game that I ever felt the need to turn off the music - a shame, really.

This reminds me of something I loved so much about IV, the early songs were very spacious and primitive, and songs got more complicated over time.

Usually no, but I've gotten tired of Civ VII's tracks super quickly so I started playing the older Civ soundtracks instead. It probably doesn't help that there's so few Civ options in antiquity so the music each new game gets repetitive fast

I'm not sick of it yet, though I agree with the point that the vocal-oriented tracks can be irritating because they're too obtrusive, even though I do appreciate the effort to come up with authentic music. There were a couple of civs in VI that I didn't like playing just because I found their vocal-oriented theme grating. I actually had that same problem as far back as Civ IV's medieval soundtrack, and wound up substituting various MP3s into the assets folder for that era because I couldn't handle so many Gregorian chants. (BtS classical, on the other hand... perfection.)

I turn the music off immediately in any game I play -- usually the first thing I do. I prefer a monastic silence for just about all my activities. I'm an introvert, so I get overstimulated very easily.
