do you need roads connecting resorces to city to get benefit

i am new and have only played demo. do you need roads connecting resouce to city to get the benefits of the farm or other buildings

OK, so there are two things you get from making improvements (like farms).

One of them is that it helps your city's food/production/commerce. For this one, you don't need roads - you just need to build the farm.

The other benefit is to connect resources to your 'network' - resources like Iron, Wheat or Dye. For these you do need roads.
