hi all can anyone tell me can you still use gold to buy or hurry a unit along.
in civ1 to 3 you can buy units (ie soilders to defend you city) is this still possible

Yes you can, but you need to research the civic "Universal Sufferage" and then have a revolution and switch to it. You can't do it from the start. I got the Pyramid wonder pretty early on and that opened up the civic without researching it first. I think this tech comes sometime near mid to mid-late game.
