I just read this article - cracked.com -
The Day the Gaming Industry Died
- and while it may be somewhat exaggerating, it's still interesting.

It has a built-in camera and microphone, so it can track the movement of your body, and recognizes both your face and voice commands. Microsoft sold the device as controllerless gaming--you don't even need a Wiimote for this, you just wave your hands through the air like Minority Report. Sounds like it could be cool. And then they showed us the games, and a bedridden industry started coughing up blood.
...
No, what convinced me my favorite hobby is dying was the fact that Microsoft devoted easily half of their conference to showing things the Xbox 360 can do other than play games. For instance, you can download TV shows! And movies! And it can do it almost as well as the devices you already own!

It seems that the console manufacturers are trying to include a lot of PC/internet features into their consoles. Is this, for you, an attractive development?

What gaming console do you already own? Are you satisfied with it?

Aww, not multiple choice :( I have a Wii and an Xbox. The Wii is good, the Xbox is alright, but it's a bit annoying sometimes. I prefer mah Wii. :goodjob:

Oh, I have a N64 (the best!) a Super Nintendo (really good too) a Nintendo DS (meh) a PSP (better than DS) and a Gamecube (really good also).

And the internet features are the best thing ever.

This should have been a multiple choice poll, since I (and many others) own more than one.

EDIT: So instead of voting, I'll just list them here:

-N64
-multiple Gameboys and Gameboy colors
-Wii
-Playstation 2
-used to have a Gamecube before it broke
-couple of Nintendo DS's
-PSP

I own a PS3, a wii, a gamecube, an n64, and a whole bunch of older consoles including a couple ataris and a bunch of stuff I can't remember. I may own a dreamcast.

In the last month the only game I've played was civ4 on my computer.

Computer gaming exclusively. I've never even played Super Mario.

I have an old Nintendo (NES) at my folks house, not sure if it even works anymore. I may have a Super NES up there too. I haven't played a consul game in ages, actually I messed around on my niece's Wii for about ten minutes last Xmas but before that nothing since I played by friend's N64 back in '03.

Amigas and Ataris don't count.
No multiple choice since it isn't very relevant.

Are you happy with the direction the console manufacturers are taking? It seems like they're becoming ordinary computers like PCs, but with a leash.

I don't own any console. There are some benefits and good games that would be good to have, but I don't like the strategy behind consoles. The Amiga 500 I had was great though...

I have a PS3 that I play maybe a fews times a week. I also have a PS2 and N64 kicking around somewhere (and maybe a CD-i as well).

How... how could you? It's like the best game ever! I mean I never had it for the original NES, I had it for the Gameboy color, but still, it was amazing! I remember when I was younger me and my sister would always fight over who got to play it on their Gameboy, it was just so fun!

I still have my N64, and thats the only console I've ever owned.

xbox360 is currently the one I play most.

The console I've racked up the most hours on though would have to be the Gamecube, courtesy of Super Smash Bros Melee.

I can mention the games I did play the first few years we had a computer. And why these games are almost never talked about(compared to Super Mario and Zelda) by the video game nerd and the others of his race is beyond me. I played: Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Dune 2, Prince of Persia, Xcom, Railroad Tycoon, Civ1, Ducktales: Quest for gold, Wolfpack(not that good, but I thought it was fun), Monkey Island and Wolfenstein 3d.
We first got a computer around 91-92, and I'm born in 84, for reference.

edit: And considering I'm not a native English speaker, I deserve credit for some of these games.

Ah, well, most of those titles are foreign to me (except for say Railroad Tycoon, Civ and Prince of Persia), mainly because I didn't start computer gaming until around the time Sim City 4 came out...

My point still stands though, Super Mario kicks ass and is one of the best games ever made.

I have a PC, with a wireless xbox 360 controller.

Using my PC, I can play games from the following consoles (with better graphics/features than on the original console - HD Wii games, etc.):

Atari 2600
Atari 5200
Atari 7800
Atari Jaguar
Atari Lynx
NES
SNES
Nintendo 64
Gamecube
Wii
Virtual Boy
Game Boy
Game Boy Color
Game Boy Advance
Nintendo DS/DSi/DSi XL
Master System
Genesis
Saturn
Dreamcast
PlayStation
PlayStation 2
PlayStation Portable

And the vast majority of good games on other good consoles (Xbox, Xbox 360, Playstation 3) have been natively ported to PC. :)

Apart from my Atari 2600 which I think is in my parents attic I have a quad core pc which does the job.

Edit: I also have a Gameboy and a DS knocking around.

I recently showed my cousins my 1990 (or 91 can't remember) vintage gameboy and they weren't impressed.
