New random seed on reload is the reloader's best friend, but even those that don't allow random seeds might have use for reloading a savegame. Just how often do you reload your savegames to improve your decisions or get another strike with the dice?

I find that if I reload in order to receive any kind of advantage, it's a slippery slope to a lot of things. For example, if I put the reload seed and just reload until I get a tech from the goody hut, I might as well just use worldbuilder, which kind of kills the fun. If I reload without a reload seed in order to give myself an advantage, I find that not only do I still feel cheap for doing it, that game will also take forever to complete if I want to perfect everything in that way.

However, I feel absolutely no guilt at making a small command mistake or forgetting to do something that I *really* meant to do (mostly because I'm tired and playing it too late) and then reloading. If I do that, then I'm sure to repeat my previous moves to the exact same thing (especially exploring). Of course, I carefully weigh how far back I'd have to reload to repair how big of an accidental mistake.

Only if accidents occur, though I confess that I do regenerate the map a lot at the very beginning which is basically the same thing.

for accidents or for important lessons (last time was when I did not rebuild my military after a war; Monty came to my door 10 turns later... lesson taken)

I only play on Noble so there are few mistakes that I can't recover from. If any. If I'm going to lose I either quit and start a new game or stubbornly keep on to see how far I can drag it out, then quit.

perhaps I shouldn't have voted, I don't even reload I just start all over, I have a very short attention sp- hey look a birdie.

I reload if I do something unintentionally. Like the game I hit a key too quickly and gifted my newly founded third city to Peter. The one that had the only supply of horses on my end of the continent.

Also if a unit doesn't wake up from sleep when I tell it to and I get a resource pillaged.

I reloaded alot while getting used to BTS. Now that I am comfortable with the AI and often choose settings Prince and above I try not to. Sometimes I will do something seriously goofy though. I get in a habit of hitting enter too much and agreeing to things I don't want, or causing a seriously major loss to my stack that I'm depending on. At which point I will give in and reset. I did it last night to win a cultural instead of space race. Then I felt bad about it for some reason.

I never reloaded a game before.

I do it the hard way because it makes me a better player .

I DO NOT save and then reset when something goes bad . If something goes bad then it tells me more than just one bad move , it tells me I've been wrong from the beggining . I just play a whole new game again , even if I make it to the modern era in pretty good shape . In reality it means I was doomed from the start if I get owned .

Its better to just start all over because more and more experiance starting from the beggining just naturally makes you a better player . You know what to watchout for and how to begin building a really successful civ , both in terms of military and peaceful times .

I have started from scratch so many times I can't even count . But guess what , I do it a a lot less frequently now than before because I know how to start very well and how to build my overall game strategy from the foundation up . Starting is the most important aspect of the game , especially for MP games .

Plus , if the AI beats me ( You can only reload on Single Player) then its fair , I take the defeat and try to do better next time . Eventually I will beat the AI . If I get beat in a game , probably the only thing I will configure is manually putting in the enemy civs instead of letting it randomize . I just select the civs I had in the game I lost in . This way when I finally beat the AIs , I feel much better about it and a greater sense of pride .

Then another new game I will randomize of course .

I NEVER reload a game.

:agree:

If I do something stupid like sending two workers to my border during war, it's bad luck. If I move my only longbow out of the city or lose the last battle at 98,7% (happened yesterday! War Chariot vs. Axeman :(), no reload. Mostly because I consider it cheating, but also because I'm not good at saving...:king:

Such a practice is the worst kiddie cheat I have ever seen.

The only exception is if you decalr war accidentally cause a wrong keyboard botton pushed, other then that it's pure cheating,it is like to play with the world builder and adding for free dozens of units......

My target is always to submit to HoF or GotM. So reloading is not an option. But even if it is allowed why you would do it? You take out all the fun if you reload!

I love it when people declare that they NEVER reload, like it's some sort of badge of honor or something. Who cares? Mostly, I think these are teenagers. I've only reloaded the game a few times, to correct grievous errors, like declaring war on the wrong AI or accidentally gifting cities, but I don't think that makes me any better than a player who habitually reloads whenever he gets an undesired result from a goody hut. That's just silly.

In MP games, you don't have the luxury of reloading, so it's pretty much tough luck. In that circumstance, at least, you can ask the other player to gift you back the city you accidentally gifted him. I can't imagine someone saying no to that. Maybe on Gamespy...

i reload for a strange reason. i like to see 'what if?', that is, how does the game go if i go this way at a prticular moment, and how would it have gone if i hadn't. i usually do this when contemplating a big invasion. war v peace.

Only reload to get new random map if 1st one impossible, like stuck in the
corner with a enemy a few squares away or on some stupid tiny island.
otherwise, save and reload during a game is just cheating. right?
