Oh, it can be. Most of my exposure to meditation techniques have been along the lines that aren't self-deluding, so I can't agree fully. I don't know if some meditations seek to further the gulfs within their own minds.

Very true! It might be, or it might not be. Depends on how superstitious someone is.

If in the "Cult of the Necker Cube" one were to base decisions on whether the Necker Cube was pointing upward or downward (as a Sign from the Necker Cube) when one looks at it, then it would be a self-deluding meditation and would be allowing the illusion to trick oneself. It's just a complex Magic 8-Ball at that point. Some types of 'prayer' seem to be like that, when people feel that they're following 'subtle urges'. Sometimes they're making good use of intuition, though.

Well, there are so many types of meditation and prayer, I don't want to stereotype too heavily. Which is why I have my caveat way up there. The meditation techniques I've been exposed to weren't self-deluding, but I can't speak for all of them.

No. I technically remain open to the chance that a higher power of some sort does exist, but I think it is extremely unlikely, and essentially live my life under the assumption that none exists. And I am even less inclined to believe in the Abrahamic god specifically (as I would guess is the main subject of the OP's question).
