I saw this banner add on CFC, was wondering if it was considered too family unfriendly.

It was at about 11.00 today (16th Sept) in case you need that info.

^ Because 10-year olds go to this site too? ;)

(kill_fire for example :D)

So? That's not even "dodgy" for a 10 year old.

This would completely and utterly fail the miller test.

I wasn't complaining, I'm 22, and male, and I don't mind seeing sexy bums at the top of CFC.

But Thunderfall likes his site to be family friendly, and I didn't think that this was family friendly. So I posted just for his info.

The only thing thunderfall can do is complain to the company who hosts cfc.

Oh, and people want to see those pics, then I suggest they go to a separate site so you can view a lot more of them! If you are for example at work or at school, and you just want to check CFC, and then you see that banner and someone walks past you... it'd be pretty embarrassing.

You shouldn't be viewing CFC in school in the first place!

And you shouldn't be viewing it at work either, but who cares? Some are addicted like that :crazyeye:

Personally, I don't visit cfc anywhere other than home, but I know a lot of people who visit cfc at work and I don't think they would like it if their bosses saw they're viewing such banners at work!

I'm pretty sure the boss would be more displeased that you're viewing a site and not focusing on your work to begin with.

Mirc aren't you ten. (You were earlier.)

Well everyone was 10 earlier weren't they?

Except if you're a really early cfcer... :mischief:

I just gave Civ3 Complete to my 8-year-old grandson and installed it for him last weekend, together with a link to CFC. I think his parents would throttle me if they saw him looking at that ad. I assured them that this was a kid-friendly site. :mischief:

The last thing CFC needs is more 8 year olds...

The question of whether the banner qualifies as obscene by US legal standards is a far cry from the question of whether it's appropriate for children to view.

That's a good point. Also, I'm over 10 by 27 years and I still don't want those things on CFC. Not to supress free speach or free trade in general, they can do it on other sites without us. Just because there are so many site like that doesn't mean they all need to be. There are plenty of blogs, some by CFC members, do they need such banners, too. Should the Wikipedea have a big ad across the top of it like that? No.

Surely the threshold for family friendly is less than the threshold for obscenity law? (If it fails the miller test, it would be _illegal_ to publish in the US.)

And if not - how come the mods lock threads that stray into "adult" topics, despite being less graphic or adult than the images that are routinely displayed on the ads, and which would clearly completely and utterly fail the miller test? That's the main point really - to allow such ads would mean it is one rule for the people who use the site, and another rule for ads (also see the other threads on this issue).
