Does anyone know when the game will drop on the 24th? (Edit: Preload is now up)

If preordered via steam, they tend to start downloading a few hours early at random times to spread out their load.
Depending upon what time and the speed of your own internet, it might or might not be finished downloading when the go live timestamp is reached.

I don't know if Steam is using US Eastern (Daylight) or some other timezone. In whichever one is used, though it's 12:01 AM.

If you preordered a CD in a box, those are usually shipped day before, but unless you paid extra will still take a day or two after the release date to arrive.

If you are instead planning on going to a physical store, they sometimes don't arrive until the day after release.

And if you wait to order until after release from steam, while in that case the download can start instantly, their own server may be swapped.

I've heard it's 12:01 EST (Eastern Standard Time). Which would presumably be 9 pm PST on the 23rd.

Yes, that is the time difference. Those in Arizona or Hawaii that forget about daylight time still being in effect get it an hour earlier than they expected.

It's also though not clear for those whose steam accounts are outside the US (such as Europe) if they'll use a closer timezone for them.
(If US Eastern is used, then it won't be until 5:01 AM British Time, but if they use one of the European timezones they'll get it a few hours earlier. EU will still be on summer time.)

Most of the Eastern time zone in the US will still be on Daylight time.

If they use Eastern Standard time it will be an hour earlier (11:01pm, Oct. 23), but most of us in the US Eastern Time zone will have our clocks and watches set on Daylight Savings time until the first Sunday in November.

Speaking of which has anyone that has ordered from Green Man Gaming heard from them at all about when they think they will send out the codes? Or if anyone has experience with them in the past do they ever send out the codes earlier than release so we can predownload?

It's midnight Eastern, and one would assume it's the current East Coast time, whatever DST might be in effect.

So just google "nyc time" and calculate timezone differences from there.

I posted some information about that here.

That's now actually the entire Eastern standard time zone within the US & Canada that observes daylight saving time. (Indiana Eastern timezone adopted Daylight saving time a few years ago)

PR and US Virgin Islands do not, but they are actually in Atlantic timezone. The other portions of the US that don't are Arizona (except for the Navajo Tribe) and Hawaii. (So hot in Arizona that outdoor activities don't start until after sunset in the summer and Hawaii is very close to the equator.)

It opens up at noon. ;___;

I wish I could half-day from work, but cannot. T__T

Incorrect unless you live 12 time zones away from EST. It activates on steam at midnight EST of Friday, as in the minute it switches from Thursday to Friday.

Yep. I'm GMT+8. Manila-Singapore-Beijing-Kuala Lumpur timezone.

00:01 in EST is 12:01 afternoon for us. :D

For BNW I pre-ordered a physical copy which arrived on the day before release.
There is no pre-loading for physical copies.
I put in the code and waited for 00:00 (GMT+1) but it didn't unlock until after 01:00
Downloading also took a while, so I started playing a bit later, like 02:00 - 02:30

Perhaps it'll be different with BE, but might be something to take into consideration.

Soo.... anyone have any word about a date and time that we can pre-load BE on steam? I know they said we can, just not when.. any word?
Moderator Action: Merged into the other thread dealing with when BE will drop on steam.

Steam doesn't announce it beforehand and I haven't seen any information coming from Firaxis either, so I guess that nobody knows right now. From my experience most games with preload are available 3-5 days before launch.

I've didn't know Steam did pre-loading of games. I'm curious to see if this will occur.
