After beiing totally disappointed by Civ 7 I have started another game of Ara. I saw there was an update on diplomacy but having played until half of the game now it seems diplomacy is still absolutely unnecessary. I have yet to see the AI agree to any of my proposals. Either they approach me with open borders, trade agreements etc or they always refuse. If we agree on something it will hold for the rest of the game. Improving or worsening relationships does not seem to help at all.
On the other hand their behaviour towards me also seems absolutely independent from my actions. I had France as neighbour and they were mostly neutral although they were a lot stronger militarily during the first age. In the second age I built a lot of units as I got atacked by the Aztecs. France then started to give me some presents which led to me trying to improve relations as well. We were at the highest rank without being allied and from one turn to the next it drops to the absolute minimum and they Dow me with the goal of capturing my capital. So I ask myself why should I invest in relations to the AI if something like this happens? Have you had similar experiences?
