Does everyone here only play conquest victory?

I'm like Raliuven-- I mean to go for something else, but by the time you punish all the civs who won't trade "fairly", its hard to avoid a domination win. Maybe if I could get past the visceral aversion to razing cities, but I can't...

Gee, I'm finding a lot of kindred players!:) Describes my style. I always start out thinking "Space" and get sidetracked. I don't know if it's some hidden good part of me, but I also can't bring myself to raze cities. The only conquest wins are on small maps where you kill everybody fast.

Then again, I can't resist SoZ if I have Ivory - even use a Pyramid prebuild. We know what that does to our attitude. Only ancient era wonder I build.

I do diverge here a little. Unless the city is going to be immediately productive or I am trying to be a 'good little Civ', I prefer to raze the city and claim the slaves, then replace it with a city I know won't flip or riot because of my continued agression towards their homeland (and then flip, because I have no intentions of being non-hostile towards their homeland until it is destroyed and they all forget they were once something other than my minions). But I still don't like to see any space that is not covered by my boarders, so its a close fit.

In the style of game: I almost always have SOME war in my games, even peaceful ones. For one thing, I like to get 4 turn research and on most levels, you need a lot of land to do 4 turn research in the modern era, and that usually means beating up the AI...

Only conquest or space ship. Domination is too easy and the other options in a regular game never caught my interest.

I don't think I've played a game to the end in a long time. Either once it is clear I'm going to win I move on or something prevents me from finishing for a while and I just start a new game.

I wouldn't count a "sure win" as such. The AI shows a remarkable ability to catch up and challenge you even at the end of the game. For one thing, if they are all united against you (which they might be if you've been aggressive) they can work together on science and really challenge you. Even games I have been heavily favored in towards the middle have come down to the end. This is usually because I play on Huge maps so just reaching all the enemy cities takes time.

On Huge maps, once you've taken down one AI Superpower and have gotten to the point where you can start making Specialist Farms, the game's pretty much won. The AI simply can't cooperate, and unless you've completely blown your reputation, you can still get MAs against one or another, which means you're bleeding two (or more) AIs dry while your own forces stay relatively healthy, thanks to large numbers of Artillery.

By the time it's clear I will win, I'm far ahead in tech and own enough of the map to win by domination. Once you get to that point, AI cant catch up. At least I've never seem them do it.
