I would go with the Yellow dot location. THe reasion, it will generate more SPT. More SPT = More units and improvements that can be built faster.

Well, as I said before in the older thread. I would chose the yellow dot location.

Go for yellow. It's future production capability will be needed.

    Yellow makes the most sense.

I would say just south of the red (or pink, actually). That way you get growth and production, with no crowding.

We need to decide whether that city will be used as a settler factory or not before we decide where to place it. If it is going to be a settler factory, it doesn't really need fresh water. However, if we want to make it our capital or wonder building city, it should be placed where Cyc mentioned.

I'd have to say one square south of red because it doesn't waste squares and keeps it close enough to the capital without overlap.

If we need a shields powerhouse, choose Yellow. But I think we need a Settler and worker factory first on fertile grounds. For that I'd choose neither Yellow, Blue nor Red, but a position south of Red, in the bend of the river. There is no Overlap with Noshuret and you still use some of the hill tiles while using the river tiles to the maximum. I prefer a side up north of the desert as a production powerhouse later. In our prioriy list a settler-worker factory is higher up than a mid/end-game production powerhouse.

The river bend looks good to me. No conflict with Noshuret, more hills than you can shake a stick at, all the grass you could wish for.

It doesn't matter if it overlaps at yellow, since it's max size is 19 anyway. That will also have the greatest production of the 3 in the industrial era and part of the modern era. (if we go that far).

This map and resulting discussion is going on in two threads. CT, please advise how you wish to consolidate/direct them to avoid confusion.

    just merge the posts. :)

    Also, think about this:

    160spt

    Army - 3 turns
    Stealth Bomber - 2 turns
    Stealth Fighter - 1 turn
    Jet Fighter - 1 turn
    ICBM - 4 turns
    Tact. Nuke - 2 turns
    Radar Arty - 1 turn
    Modern Armor - 1 turn

This is another PDX folks! (for those who remember DG1)

I think the blue dot looks great. It's nicely spaced, and doesn't "hog" too many hills. Other cities will be able to share the hills, for a nice sharing around of shields later in the game.

Having a few hills in a city's radius is good, but having 10 hills isn't useful until very late in the game, so better to share them around.

    Threads merged.

Late model planes and nukes aren't going to be a factor in this game. All of the other production is the same for a city with 134 shields.

So, can we gt a new map with the location South of your red dot? Maybe you could work up the "stats" for that one too? :D Thanks!

Ok, 1S of the red/pink dot is:

    8 hills
    2 mountains
    4 plains
    6 grassland

    Size 12: 21spt
    Size 20: 160spt

So do these figures mean that this site is the most productive at each level and offers best potential for growth?

It's the maximum production output. More growth doesn't equal more production, especially past size 20. These cities will stop at size 20 (or be a city that constantly grows and starves).

    Here's an updated version:

Thank you, CT. I still believe the Orange area is our best shot.
