Don't ask don't tell ruled unconstitutional

    Gays and straights sharing the same showers and sleeping quarters is pretty different from men and women doing it. Gay men have always used the same facilities as straight men since gays and straights are not normally segregated. As far as they know, some of the men sharing their quarters could be gay but not openly.

    Can someone explain to me the real reason supporters of this law approve of "dont ask dont tell".

    Is there the belief that being openly gay in the military is a liability? Apart from opinions i havent seen any evidence to back it up. This is compounded by the fact other countries militaries can serve and be openly gay without a problem.

    If its the service members who are not gay that are bigoted we should not appeal to bigots before we appeal to justice. Dont sign on bigots.

    You're dodging the question. It may work now but how do we know it wont work just as fine if we abolish it. Where are the studies saying it will ruin the integrity and morale of our military if we do so?

    Sorry im not buying it.

    It certainly works from the perspective of those who want to keep any known gays out of the military who don't repent and claim it was a momentary lapse of judgement that won't ever happen again. The only things that have really changed under DADT is that the military can no longer ask someone directly if they are gay, and the other soldiers can no longer physically attack (and even kill) people they suspect of being gay without much repercussion for doing so.
