what titles attract you to a topic, and which turn you away? this forum is not anywhere near busy, but on places like Ebay or battle.net for starcraft games, people often use short, but catchy phrases to attract attention. any thoughts on this? I think this was a good title...

This title made me think it was just a spam topic. I eventually got to it in the list of threads and decided to look just out of curiousity.
The titles that actually attract me to them are ones that appear to have a topic that I'm interested in. Although I look at most new threads on this forum there are some I just skip over because I know what they're about so there's no curiousity aspect, such as word association and sports threads for sports I'm not interested in.

Can you say Ban Me? I normally look at the titles and see if they are worth my time. Since I am bored, this one seemed to be calling me.

BTW Pellaken, just read your article over at the Diplomacy 'zine. A somewhat difficult read but .

I skip over political, religious, and just plain boring topics.

I look at topics such as this, and most other topics. Unfortunately there isn't much besides religious and political threads

I don't know exactly what attracts me to a topic. One that isn't too long, and that a mod has posted in (in a post pertaining the topic, not a warning or something) then I know that it's probably not going to get closed. Also, no debates, so I generally stay out of threads about news. Also, anything I think know something about. Example: Texas. You know, I want to dispel any ugly rumors or myths as soon as possible.

OT, since I'm relatively free at 'work', I glance at most new threads. Excepting for those boring dry political topics of course. Also I have many 'standard' threads to follow up each time I log in e.g. my SGs in the Civ3 story forum and my Civ2/3 demo game threads.

Speaking of which, when are you gonna come over, Pell? The new War Church does need a punching bag, you know. J/k. Hope to see you soon.

I generally avoid the main debate threads and just view the threads that might be interesting...If a thread is being posted on regularily then it is likely that more people will be attracted to the thread and then you will get even more posts. So if you can spark an interest in the topic, then the posts should start to increase...
