Dont taze me to death, dude

I mean its too early to blame anyone. The stun gun might have been the cause, or just contributed to something that was already seriously wrong with him. He wasn't behaving normally. Lets see if an inquiry can provide some answers.

My problem with tasers is that cops feel they can use them at any time. Tasers are weapons that cause signifigant pain, and in some cases death or serious injury... I think that police should only be able to use them if they are in danger etc.
In this situation the policeman apparenly tased him as soon as he didn't do as they said. He hadn't tried to hurt anyone and it doesn't seem to me that any of them were in danger of immenint harm. Thus I think using a taser was totally ridiculous.

But you don't know if he was tazed to death, as a matter of fact there is no medical data showing that to be the case at all.
An autopsy found no sign of drugs or alcohol in Mr Dziekanski's system, and failed to pinpoint the cause of death.

Correlation doesn't make causation.

Stun guns 'safe', study suggests Now tazers have saved many, many lives. But as NC says, cops are way to quick to use them. A tazer should only be used in lew of using a fire arm or a baton. And really, how often do cops need to use a baton or a fire arm.

Well perhaps they should not have became pigs if they didn't want to have to wrestle a guy to the ground here and there. I've seen cops physically do much worse, these guys are cowards to the lowest degree.

still better than fire arms. It is very rare that some one dies of a taser. I think it is less dangerous than not tasing.

"The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation says up to 18 people have died after being stunned by a Taser in Canada since 2003."

Happens a lot!

quote the damn thing in th OP, don't just link it¬

18 is alot? How many people were tazed and didn't die?

Weren't tasers supposed to be used as a replacement for times in which deadly force would normally be necessary?

The RCMP has been through a number of scandals the past few years, they are becoming a major embarassment to this country.

I watched the video and there's no excuse for their behaviour. Four Mounties and one unarmed man, a taser is not needed to subdue him. Add to that he was largely complying with their orders.

You're right, in fact, we should also take guns away from cops, because they mis-use them from time to time, and people die, doesn't matter how many lives they saved, don't train them better, just take it away.

I'd say 18 dead people is a lot more than 0.

And a lot less than say 100.

I mean come on. In the big scheme of things, your chances of dying by a taser hit are pretty darn insignificant.

I never said take the tasers away, all I'm saying is that this was not an appropriate time to use it.

If a taser is used in a situation where a gun would have been used instead, then I am all for it, but there is no way a gun would have ever been pulled here.

The problem is that they are too easily pulled. No they are not necessarily lethal, but they ARE potenitally lethal. Certainly there is a better chance of killing someone with a taser than by wrestling them to the ground.

A weapon of any kind was not required for the mounties to subdue this man.

This is outrageous.

A polish man killed only because they didn't understand what he was saying. Imagine that, at an airport!

Obviously, he was found guilty of speaking a Slavic language and sentenced to death by a bunch of racist idiots. I hope they'll be tried for murder and spend the rest of their worthless lives in prison, preferably in Poland.

This is truly a huge embarassment to Canada.

Yeah, but who is to say that he wouldnt have died from a heart attack from that as well? Plenty of people get killed simply from police trying to subdue them also. I would say its a toss up as to what is more harmful - being shot with a taser, or having 4 big dudes jump on you and pummel you into submission.

Lets not forget this guy was throwing around a table and a computer. Acting like belligerent mad man will tend to get you treated like one.
