doubt with Workers

I have time playing civ 3, and i always use the automatic action with workers.
I find it more easy, its very anoying to command the workers, but people recomend to do it
Anyone have a tutorial or can explain tips for making roads and mines, etc.

It's mainly for worker management in the start.

Couple of other thoughts:
Don't move a worker off a tile until you've roaded it.
If you group workers, consider how long an improvement will take and use them to an even multiple (if a road takes 3 turns, don't use 4 workers)

Shift+R are your friends, road too is one of my most common worker commands.

Not always the case, but a good general rule. For rushing Wonders/Buildings/Troops the (up to) 6/12 turns it takes to road Hills/Mountains isn't always worth the payback, better to just dump mines down and come back for the roads later. Industrial Civs excluded, of course.
