Ok, Im having a problem. When I hit the turn button the game makes me declare war on the Americans for no reason. I have loaded several times changing different things ranging from deleting all my units in their territory to Demanding something so that I can't declare war for 10 turns, to improving my relations with them. I've given them gifts, I've doneeverythingI can think of, but no Matter what I do I Declare War on them at the end of my turn. Can someone explain why this is happening so that I can stop it, THanks

Do you have vassals ? Defensive pacts ? Permanent alliances ? AP resolutions ?

It's fate!

Take it as a sign that America should be yours! :D

Actually, what afa2000 said! ;)

Oh, I have a defensive pact with the Japanese... It does say lincoln declares war on Tokugowa (spelling) but that is after It says I declare war on him...hmm this is probly the issue though. I can't believe I didn't notice that might be causing it though, thanks.

 yes that would be it....

You have a defensive pact, America declares war on your Ally, you immediately, automatically declare war thanks to the pact.

There's your reason!

Lawl, Im a huge noob. I loaded atleast 15 times...wow. there goes an hour of time I not only will never get back, but could have spent owning the Americans for DoW my allies...But I would prefer not to Fight the Americans as a few turns later I was going to DoW someone else and was all set up to take several of their cities...It also wont allow me to cancel the defencive pact I supose because we agreed to it not too long ago...is there anything I can do?

Teach the evil american a lesson ! ^^

Man I was all set up to take out someone else...oh well. Also why would they do this they are one of the weekest civs and they attack someone stronger than them who has a defensive pact with me the most powerful ATM...why oh why would the AI do this?

Welcome to BTS ... get used to the new AI.

A little suicidal. Not to mention I have a massive army very close by (all in transports) and a huge navy to back it up that was about to own the greeks. While Lincoln probly didn't know this he is about to find out!

Wait, I still think it might be glitched, beacause when It happens It makes me declare war it says "deal canceled - Defensive pact with tokugowa". Is this not strange. IM a little confused. Did this occur just because In my game it shows me declaring war on Lincoln first?

Defensive pacts are always canceled when war is declared. You just have to do it again when in peace.

So I come to their aid, and they cancel our pact every time...That seems like a glitch to me. Sry If it sounds like im complaining, it's not that big of a deal, its just a little confusing and I did waste an hour or so

Sorry StoweMan, but it seems like everytime someone doesn't understand something here they call it a glitch! Really, it isn't - it works as intended, let me try to explain the idea.

They didn't "cancel the pact" - a defensive pact is cancelled whenever one of the members of a pact either declares war or has war declared on them..... it's an automatic mechanic.

So Japan was declared on, you automatically go to war with America on Japan's behalf. You have met your requirements of the defensive pact and the defensive pact is voided by the fact that you are now at war together. This also means that you are accruing war-time diplomacy boni with your friendly civ.

If instead America had declared war on you, Japan would have automatically declared war on America and the pact would still have been cancelled.

Perhaps you disagree with the implementation, and I am sure that there are many ways we could imagine to improve upon it, but it's mainly there for balance purposes.
