Hey guys, I just got Civilization Complete a few days ago and was trying to upload a few civilization mods into the game. For some reason, it wasn't working and so here I am asking for help. The two mods I was trying to upload were these:

Ireland
Nazi Germany

I read the tutorial found in the civilization forum, but there were a few differences between that version and the one I was using. Firstly, my game seems to use different file names. It goes something like "Program Files/ 2K Games/ Civilization 4 Complete/" then at this point it goes to either "Beyond the Sword/Mods" or simply "Mods". Which one do I put this in? When I go to load a mod on the actual game disc, the options available are those found in the "Beyond the Sword/ Mods" area.

Also, could you guys tell me what I'm doing wrong with this process, I can't seem to find the problem. First, I double-click the mod in question and press save. Then it goes in a .zip file. I use WinRAR to extract said file to one of the two locations posted above, then exit out of the program and load up the disc. I go to Advanced>Load Mod and there is no option for the mod I just extracted.

Thanks for the help!

Since the mods you see are from the BtS mods directory, that is where you will want to put the mods you download.

Double check to make sure the folder isn't double layered.
As a demonstration, I quickly through in a double layered mod directory and took a screen shot.

If the mod has a double layer like that, then just move the files up one layer as indicated by the blue arrow.

If that isn't the issue, I think some of the others around here would have some ideas.
I also haven't ever just installed an 'add a civ mod', so I don't know if there needs to be something special done to make it work.
I guess I should try it some time...

For those of you noticing that I have FfH2 .25 and .30, I am adding .32 now.
I guess I should delete the old ones... heh, but not right now, lol.

I'll try that out. That could be the case. I am supposed to just click the "extract to" button in WinRAR and then go to the BTS mod directory, right? I've been getting errors, sorry for not including this, saying that it cannot find the specified path or something similar. I'll try installing a modpack, particularly one in the Fall From Heaven series just to make sure it isn't a civ-specific issue. Thanks for the help, I'll edit this post in a little while hopefully before I go to sleep.

EDIT: I was trying to do what you were saying with the whole replace the original with the folder inside it, as the ones I needed required this. However, I noticed that nothing at all moves when I use the extract button. I'll have the file "Ireland.zip/Ireland" clicked on for instance, and then I tell it to extract to "Program Files/ 2K Games/ Firaxis / Civilization 4 Complete/ Beyond the Sword/ Mods" and then I get a bunch of diagnostic errors within WinRAR saying "The system cannot find the path specified". Nothing goes through when I look using My Computer to see any added program files in the folder I told it to extract to. It looks the exact same as before. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, it's really frustrating.

UPDATE: I got it! I got the Nazi Germany mod to load, by extracting its .rar file in the same spot, and then going in My Computer and copying/pasting it into the Beyond the Sword/Mods folder. I didn't have any issues with it being double layered, but I'll keep that info ready for when I need it. I tried using an Ireland mod but it didn't work, it got a bunch of errors while loading up the game with the mod and then no civilizations showed up when I went to start the game. I'm guessing the mod wasn't compatible with v3.17. Is there a way to load several mods in one game or no? Like, it would be awesome to have a game with a bunch of leaders known for their slaughterous habits just to see what would happen.

yeah, most extractors are set up to go straight for the 'regular' install location.
... Civilization 4/ Beyond the Sword/ Mods
So, when extracting, you would want to tell it that it is in a different location.
... Civilization 4 Complete/ Beyond the Sword/ Mods
Self extractors (.exe) might be able to find the location on its own... but they may not.

As for having various civilizations all load in the same mod, you would create a folder in your mods directory (example: Murderous Civs)
and then move all the custom Civilizations into that one folder.

So, any civ mods that you get to work (adds the civ correctly), just move the contents of that mod into the folder you are combining them in.
Here is an example of what I mean:

As for the Ireland mod erroring, entirely delete it then try putting it in again.
If it still fails, double check the thread about it and see if it helps.

Thank you! That stuff is really helpful, especially the images. I think the problem with the Ireland mod is it was not made compatible with patch 3.17 yet. I think I've figured out most of it, and the multi-civ mod folder will definitely help.

By the way, do you know how to get the Civ 4 Gold mod into the game. It downloads different than the rest of them, it says it's an application instead of a .rar or .zip and I'm not entirely sure what to do with it. Simply copying and pasting it into the appropriate mod folder doesn't seem to work.

The .exe is a self extracting.

So it is like a .zip or .rar, but you can just double click it and it will go itself.
Think of it like an installer, you just need to tell it where to put it and it will do it.
The advantage is that end users don't need WinZip or WinRar or any other such program.
