Dr.NES: The D.O.O.M. Project - Operation Skrømtby

OOC: I just realised that I only have six people in my team and Germanicus has eight. Chatraha you are now assigned to Charlie fireteam. In-game this mistake did not happen, it was people joining as I wrote the lists etc. that made me think we had fewer people than we really do.

Daniels, since you are C.O., let me know when you feel each soldier has expressed his opinion, and give me a final, summed up plan for your squad.

Mark turns to his fellows.

"I am really that brilliant or are you all just shy? Speak now or forever hold your peace."

OOC: Dread give it a few more hours if no-one has replied in three hours time start the update. If you reply three hours and one minute after this post tough luck. Summed up version is the same as I originally posted as the two squads are now balanced pretty much in turns of make-up and numbers.

BTW who is this phantom player, Kostyantyn, who has no stats and is not on the official list of players but is in Delta team?

(Gallagher)

"If you think that's best, Lt., I'm behind you."

"For god's sake I am annoyed now. If you people have a problem, criticism or no longer want me in charge say! That is a direct order. Anyone found to be muttering dark things under their breath about the plan later on will be reprimanded for not criticising the plan earlier and therefore disobeying a direct order. In the SBS anyone regardless of rank can criticise anyone else in a constructive manner in the planning stage. The same is true here."

Curtis sighed, appearing out with his ghillie suit on. As he listend to the ongoing discussion, he frowned. If this was going to be just a scouting mission, sending an entire fire team was, in his opinion, not efficient. Sure it was much more safer for individual person that way, but it also increased chance of detection. Which ruined the purpose of scouting mission. But it wasn't that important. It wasn't his place to criticize commanders anyways. Even under direct order. He didn't really complain either. He simply nodded.

Aussie:

"Uh... sir... I think he meant to be gung-ho, not reserved.

In any case, whatever the plan, I'm ready to go. We don't have any intel worth bothering over, so what we've got is as good as anything so far as I can tell."

Jarkko saw several men reaching for the mobile ghillie suits....armadillos or whatever they called them. He had no need for one, it was pointless in such a rocky environment. If someone spotted a bush scaling the rocks, we would clearly know what was going on. All he needed was traditional camouflage, particularly his reversible winter/woodland adopted by his old unit some two years ago. Simple, light, and effective...no need for all that bushy nonsense.

Sir, my plan has already been mentioned. I have no further points. If your plan is what you want seen in action then I will follow your orders. But I have grave issues with your plan.... 1. When teams are being switched and we have an enemy squad or something terrible lurking nearby they will take that time to attack and ruin our chances. 2. Keeping a team on the field from insertion till the successful completion of the mission provides 2 things, 1, a strong presence to deter any enemy attacks. 2, the knowledge of the terrain around them should they come under attack. (which will not happen if the teams are changed around too much)

Finally, as my team has the majority of the snipers, a rapid move from either the Peninsula or the Fishing Village under the cover of darkness to the Radio Tower will provide us with the high ground and the possibility to see everything around us, from the Harbor to the Residential Area, from the Truck Depot to the Fishing Village. A fire team can hole itself up in the tower with ease and fight off at least a company of troops maybe even a battalion provided they have no vehicles. Once the tower is secured, this does 2 things to make our job easier... provide around the clock coverage of the area with our possession of the high ground, and also a final defensive position should we be forced back.

Whatever my orders are I will follow them to the letter, sir.

So great, I'm listed twice.

Yep, but its beginning to look like I can't catch a break with the L-T. :p

Skrømtby, Norway

Assumptions get men killed.

Daniels stood in the hold of the fishing trawler, holding a beam to brace himself against the rocking of the boat.

The men were all here, arranged by fire teams. Sarge was with his team on the left, cradling that massive weapon he so loved to shoot. Daniels knew a bit about Sarge, from both his file and stories he had heard. Apparently, when he was a young boy, Sarge was scared to hell by the boogie man and . .. .. .. . his pants; and ever since, he’s been seeing ghosts around every corner. Yet, by God he was the largest, meanest, strongest, and, well, most qualified soldier to lead his fire team.

Daniels turned to his second in command of Charlie Team - Jarkko Hirvonen. Jarkko was a very loyal soldier who valued the success of the mission above all else. He would be an excellent addition to the squad.

Robert "Bobby" Chandler sat by his locker, listening to his iPod as the others prepared. The track he was listening to:

Track Number 1

“Everyone, listen up,” Daniels began. Bobby took out his headphones.

“Our mission is to find out what’s going on. Simple as that. It’s a baby sitting mission.”

Everyone was silent, expecting more information. Daniels didn’t say anything.

“What about hostiles?” asked Sarge. “Enemy positions? Key targets? Objectives?”

“We’re going with the most basic of intel,” Daniels replied. “Some gung-ho ship captain radioed in a distress call, talking about corpses and such. We think its pirates going after some of the oil. Whatever the case, we just haveta investigate the area, find out what’s going on.”

“Quick question,” ‘Doc’ Jensen raised a finger. “Why isn’t the Norwegian military going in? Or some sort of police force?”

Daniels turned to Valentin, who promptly shrugged. “We got hired to do this,” Valentin answered, “and so we’re doing it.”

“What are out limitations?” asked James Egrishaw.

“Protect the property of the oil company, including the barrels of oil. And protect the civilians. In that order.”

Lars Sanderson whistled, surprised by the answer. “What’s the tactical plan?” he asked.

Daniels nodded. “If you check the mission area, you’ll see a peninsula jutting out into the ocean, right next to the fishing village. We’re gonna land there, and set up a base camp. From there, we will send out one fire team to scout the fishing village, while the other stands guard. They’ll come back at dawn and report their findings. We’ll work from there.”

James Morgan interjected. “What if they have dug in at the village? Going in the middle of the night can be precarious, especially with only one team.”

Basil "Aussie" MacFadden refuted that claim. “We’re much more badass than anything they can friggin’ throw at us.”

Daniels replied, “It’s a risk we gotta take. We need intel about the village. If they are dug in, we won’t risk a frontal attack.”

Youriy Alexandrov nodded. “Let’s get this rollin’.”

And so they set out, each ready for the task ahead. The ship was unloaded and a base prepared.

"I'll be waiting by the oil harbor," said Valentin, "moored to the far western dock. If, for any reason, you need to find me, I'll be there."

"What?" asked Daniels. "You are going to be docked?"

Valentin chuckled. "In this environment, being moored in is the best camouflage. A boat out at sea is suspicious. I'll be nearby at all times."

And so he left.

25,000 feet above Skrømtby, Norway.

Spoiler :

The night-vision camera remained locked onto the small fishing vessel so many miles below.

It had been following them for almost an hour. It had enough fuel to remain above them for another 26 hours.

Quick information:

It is now 0300 Hours. Dawn is at 0800 Hours, so you have quite a bit of time.

It is ~ -2 degrees Celsius (~ 28 degrees Fahrenheit). Weather appears clear, but reports say that snowfall is possible today.

Good luck, and keep your wits about you. I won't be far away.

"What is the plan, sir?" Sarge cleared his throat, he hated going against his superiors, but sometimes it was needed to survive in these times. His commanders in Iraq knew and respected this... but they also knew when to keep him in check, but this guy was different. Sarge didn't know if it was for the better or worse, but he will see how things work out first.

Aussie:

Planning was done, and now it was time for action. Being a good Protestant, he started the day with a prayer - and being a good soldier, he ended the prayer with a fifth check of ammo.

"SIR! Landing is secure, ready for further orders."

OOC: Could I please have an updated main map with our location on it and a map/detailed description of our lay-up area? Maybe a general description of the terrain as far as we can see as well, if its not too much. You know relief, obvious cover, vegetation level, rivers, streams, fences and other land boundaries or landmarks etc.

"Right based off what we know of the area, which is nothing, I'm going to evaluate our lay-up area. If I think its a strong position then I will only leave the best marksman and a rifleman behind to defend the base. Charlie fireteam will lead the recon patrol, because we have more heavy firepower to bring to bare to win a firefight quickly. Once the firefight is won Delta fireteam will move up from long-range support and provide the firebase from which Charlie fireteam can flank the enemy. Now I would like to take a few moments to remind everyone of the drills for patrolling, identifying targets... (briefing moves on to a general drill revision session to ensure everyone is using the same drills, pep talk etc. which I could include but really can't be bothered to write out. Note the drill revision session lasted about ten minutes, maybe five or less depending on how quickly we decided on the drill for the section and how fast people picked it up.)
