Dr.NES: The D.O.O.M. Project - Operation Skrømtby

As my fireteam has most of the snipers I think it would be better off allowing Delta to land and establish positions that can oversee every aspect of the town it can.

Each sniper will have an assault member with it and each team will take up positions first at the Fishing village, then moving down towards the Truck depot and from there we can establish a base that can cover all angles, the Harbor, the Residential area, and the Radio/communications tower, and even the fishing village.

With that secured, our snipers can occupy the tower provided it is cleared by our assault team. From there the snipers can cover a wide area, seeing there are no mountains or high hills in the area that should provide enough cover for Charlie Team to land either at the harbor or that rocky section closest to the tower. If you land at the harbor and come under fire, Delta would be in an excellent position to flank and attack the rear of our enemy while the snipers cover Delta's rear by watching the direction towards the Residential area and the fishing village.

If this plan is approved, I will get to work on drawing up the plan in detail.

OOC: Dred what is the scale on the map. You didn't label it.

Will reload the map with the new scale. Should be approximately 1/2 mile on top, and 1/2 a kilometer on the bottom.

OOC: Dreadnought, I suppose there could be some additional sniper camos in the boat for alexandrov to take, aye?

Whatever you prefer. You could take a ghillie suit, though those tend to be cumbersome when running/maneuvering, etc. But they are, by all means, the best camo you can get. Or you could take the conventional camo. Whatever you prefer.

If, in any way, shape, or form, I could guarantee your survival, I would, just because of this comment.

"Isn't this mission supposed to only take two days anyways? What would be the sense in taking two days to hike into the AO and then have our contract terminated for not meeting the time frame?"

The mission is assumed to take, at most, two days. The contract does not expire in two days, however, so do not be afraid of taking your time.

One last thing, that I should say: the squad will arrive at the mission area at approximately 2100-0500 hours, barring weather or other trivial details. You will be landing at night. The exact time is calculated to be approximately 2300-0100 hours.

Egrishaw: "Yeah, what he said," James said, gesturing lazily to Sarge. "Plus, I've got one of those awesome radios. If we need to, I could go along with a sniper and we could tell you what's going on. If we spot anything unusual we could let you know."

OOC: What about my question? On the subject of ghillie suits you can get a more mobile, less camouflaging version, called an armadillo suit. How do I know? I saw someone in one on exercise, on Saturday, and saw said person run around in it quite happily. I will reply to everyone's statements in about half an hour, I'm meant to be working.

"SHOTGUN ON THE TOWER!!!" Lars screamed.
His first words were received with laughter by some, annoying looks by others.

"Anyway, back to the book!"

Cui rationi contra homines barbaros ataque imperitos locus fuisset...

OOC: I think what he means is you can have anything you need, top of the line suits, weapons, equipment. If there is something you want to wear, use or fire you have it.

OOC: My point was you can take a middle option if you want to be able to move at speed and still wear something like a ghillie suit.

OOC: You don't have to guarantee anything, Dreadnought - I'll do it for you. ;)

Aussie:

"So anyhow, what's our decision, fearless leader? Time and tides wait for no man, mate! Let's.... ROCK!!!!"

Roman.

I looked up from my position in the rear of the room, brows raised upwards by the sudden outburst. The commander, breathing hard, berating one of the Americans with an apparent gusto. Looking subtly around, I noted more than one pair of high brows, and few spontaneous frowns stumbling into the light. Blinking, I peered downwards, and back onto the table that had came from the side of the wall. The Pikovaya Dama peered upwards, unblinkingly, a serene smile gracing her thin, red lips as she stared off towards the side. I frowned, thumbed over the edges of the card for a moment, and then placed her down into the pile, flipping another three cards. Slowly, methodically picking the correct words out from the memory pool, I spoke without looking up.

“Am I the only one unconcerned about the whole mutilation and decapitation issue? I doubt I would need to inform any of you that a sense of pure hatred would be needed for many men to do such. Pirates or such may harbor ill-will, but they would have to be purely mindless to commit what was reported. To storm into the harbor, to take on such an operation without a scant piece of information, is not risky; it is suicide. In addition to this, the remaining civilians must be factored in- if we storm the village, as some call for, there could be a chance for miscommunication with these fearful people, leading perhaps to a potential disaster.

This said, I can only recommend a serene plan, a plotted plan. Let reconnaissance play its part, take stock of what and who have remained from a distance, and only when a proper understanding has been achieved, should we move forwards. Time and surprise may be advantages, but they pale in comparison to the proper plan.” I stopped, dropped the six of clubs into its pile, and flipped another three cards.

[Gallagher]

Silence since the old man had spoken up. It's about damn time, both the silence and the sanity. I broke the silence, nodding approval.

"I agree. Like I said earlier, and as has since been echoed, we need a discrete landing point, couple a' recon teams to get the feel of the area, then, if its feasible, linking up with civilians/survivors.

Also, sir, I voted for you pretty much before anyone else had cast their lot, and I don't regret that choice, but, with respect, sir, we aren't even in combat and we're already screaming at each other. Now, I haven't worked with most of you guys here, but if I'm going in to Christ only knows what, I need to know that cool heads will prevail.

Now, way I see it, we've got a few options in front of us.
  • Balls out, feet first into Lord knows what harbour insertion
  • Ditto, fishin' village
  • Quiet landing on the the peninsula, with accompanying recon and whatnot
  • Using the boat as a portable base, with all the logistical difficulty of getting on and off the boat which this option entails

If I missed something, bring it up. Otherwise, I say we either take a vote on these, or Lt. Daniels decides on one on his own. At the very least, lets focus the conversation so's that we can try to decide before we actually get to bleedin' Norway."

"Although I hadn't taken the villagers into it, Gallagher and Roman have basically stated the reasons why I suggested a landing in the peninsula, as it allows us to be near yet have a chance at a silent arrival to the fishing village and the oil station."

As others were still detailing out the exact plan for the mission, Alexandrov walked to a box filled with different types of clothing and camos. After searching for a while, he picked up an armadillo suit, examined it for a minute and nodded approvingly. "This will come in handy..."

OOC: Sorry I never had time to reply last night but better late than never.

Lt. Danniels sat down and considered the situation for a minute or two while the others argue around hin.

"I hope my language did not offend you Bobby. Most of the squaddies I led laughed at me when I talk in a vaguely intellectual manner and found more simple language more reassuring. As we have no time limit I have decided on the following course of action, to be put to the vote. We will land on the peninsula with our gear and supplies. We will leave one fireteam with the supplies and then sweep the area for enemies and lay-up sites with the other. Once we find a lay-up site or spend an hour searching we will return the the guarding fireteam and either lead them to the lay-up site or return to the boat and head to a different point on the peninsula. Upon finding a lay-up site we will prepare the area with mines and other nasties, which will be marked for one night only so learn where they are! We will then set up camp and one fireteam will embark on a recon patrol north towards the village. They will return at dawn, eat supper with the guarding fireteam, report their findings and turn in. If anything requires immediate attention the guarding fireteam will move out otherwise both will rest. The fireteams swap roles the next night. This will continue until with have enough intel on the village, probably by the second full night in the field, to assault the enemy position. All clear and everyone happy?"

Alexandrov speaking;

You are the CO, sir. It's your call, and if this is your plan I go with it.

"I'm good with that plan. And please, do not make stupid mistakes, I don't want to be cleaning up behind those mistakes. And by stupid mistakes I mean tripping and cutting yourselves, for example."

OOC: I know that a "stupid mistake" is likely to happen to me, due to the Murphy's Law regarding this kind of games, but...

Sarge shook his head, it was too risky, "I disagree with the plan, but I will follow it regardless."

Sarge saluted and left the briefing room, he wanted to be alone with his thoughts.
He sighed deeply, alternating teams day in and day out was a risky plan, furthermore there was no chance of surprising or outmaneuvering the enemy, as they will see us coming from miles away, it is no quiet thing... sending 1 team in then out, only to send another in. Someone will screw up in these kinds of plans. But what can he do? He must follow the orders of his superiors like a good soldier. Even if the orders might end in the death of himself and his team. Fortunately, this plan does not seem to look that way, but it is very risky nonetheless and there are safer and more realistic approaches to this than what the plan is outlining.

Danniels frowns slightly. I must conserve resources and we do not want to return after a long patrol in hostile territory to find an entire enemy platoon concealed around the camp ready to ambush us. I also don't want to commit all of my forces in a recon patrol because that will leave no reserves if we get into trouble which could then lead to encirclement and death. Hmm... maybe the difference between British and American tactics go deeper than I thought.

"In what way do you disagree with it Sarge? At a guess I am going to say you disagree with the alternating fireteams, being an army man and taught not to split a section. This is why all reconnaissance takes place at night and the scouting team returns before dawn to avoid detection. I will remind you to remain concealed at all times, disengage if engaged and call for support if you are unable to disengage. We will tab to your location and support your withdrawal or turn the tide of the battle and assault the enemy. If we find a really easy to conceal and defend lay-up site both teams will go out with one sniper and one rifleman staying behind to warn us of any surprises and to defend the camp against a small attack. Is that clearer and or more acceptable Sarge? Also may I just get something clear here. I want you to rip apart any plan you don't agree with so we can start again, this applies to everyone. I do not want anyone to follow a plan there are not 100% behind because that will leave us doing a half-hearted job and messing up. When we mess up we get hurt or die. We do not want to mess up. All clear?"

OOC: Tabbing- British military slang for running at a fast but sustainable pace in full kit. An SAS patrol can cover roughly fifteen km per hour, maybe more, when tabbing. Even if we move at half that speed we will reach you in good time according to the scale on the map.

Aussie:

"One bit, sir. Our fireteams are not (I believe) equally split, in either numbers or firepower. Sarge holds most of the snipers, and while I'm awefully good with my wombat gun (OOC: grenade launcher) I'll admit many of the those blokes are better at sneak'n'peek. Shouldn't we split the duties to confirm that, sir? Let them do the scouting, and let our group be the active reserve and assault group?"

"Sounds like a good idea. I just hope that they don't get too tired, seeing as the reserve force may take it in turns to sleep and keep watch."
