Dumb and Stupid Quotes Thread: Idiotic Source and Context are Key.

Why is that a dumb or stupid quote? Seems to make perfect sense.

well, maybe not dumb, just sad and telling. It's basically showing how ignorant our political elite are about technological advances that have been here for quite some time (the internet didn't get invented yesterday, you know). Plus she assumes that everybody is as ignorant about the internet as she is...

I don't think there's any proof he ever actually said that. I'd like to be proven wrong though.

I guess bushisms were so popular that many got invented on the spot, or in the words of Abraham Lincoln: "The thing about quotes on the internet is that you cannot confirm their validity."

edit: btw, snopes officially lists this particular bushism as false

"The people in Louisiana must know that all across our country there's a lot of prayer -- prayer for those whose lives have been turned upside down. And I'm one of them." --George W. Bush, Baton Rouge, La., Sept. 3, 2008

Why sure you can. Just look them up on the web. That Lincoln guy didn't know what he was talking about.

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

Why does George W. Bush hate America?

I think you're right. And there's no need to make anything up, as far as Bush is concerned.

Jow is that a dumb or stupid quote?

Well, the way he ended his sentence allows one to view it as if he meant that he was one of those whose lives were turned upside down and so deserves the praying of others in the US. (obviously he did not mean it that way, but it is a strange sentence structure in English, i suppose).

Having your lie turned upside down means that things in your life are going very badly. Basically what he was saying that we know you are going through tough times and we are praying for a recovery. Nothing dumb or stupid about it.

That's what he was trying to say, yes. What he actually said, though, was that he is a person in Louisiana whose life has been turned upside down. The only 'them' being referred to that he could be one of are 'the people in Louisiana ... whose lives have been turned upside down'. This is a matter of grammar; no-one is saying that what he was trying to say was stupid, just that he somehow managed to not be able to say it.

Which is what's so very highly entertaining about Bush. He does it repeatedly.

I think he's a genius.

Is this going to be the stupidest thing I read all day? Day is still pretty young, after all.
