Dwarf Fortress

Yes. Well, there is no exact date. But here are the lates news - date posted and number of features/bugs that needs to be done until release of the new version:

07/01/2008: 139
07/02/2008: 115
07/03/2008: 88
07/04/2008: 77

As you can see, the 0 will be hit really soon. And zero = release :-) hooray

Holy. Does this mean Dwarf Fortress might finally be done???

Hell no. It's just until the next version, they are nowhere even close to being half-done what they want to implement (I think).

mythmonster2:
No no no. That is just number of things until next release :-) This will be first of the three releases during implementation of the Army Arc. And then there is a lot of other Arcs to do...

New version is out, and with it comes the ability to make large spaces of walls and floors. The towers must be built!

Also hooked on this game , looks like the next version supports re-sizable display window unto 200x200 tiles (thx Gawd)

Anyone else think that the quotes they put on the DF wiki are pretty hilarious?

The current two:

"...And I simply doubt we have a need for 7 fishery workers. On top of that, a second soap maker. The hell IS soap?!" --Zero

Booze does all the work in forts. Dwarves are just booze exoskeletons.

I really need to get back into this game, especially after the latest series of versions. Ablity to expand the screen and a new utility to make a 1x1 map will make my dreams of a micro castle awesome.

Bumping this with my most recent fortress. 4x4 area with limestone, no magma or other special features. Currently 197 inhabitants.

military.png

Quite strong military by my standards, but hasn't faced a real test yet. Lots of wardogs. Almost every soldier has atleast one assigned to them.

Some of the bedrooms.

entrance.png

The entrance, featuring a killzone for the catapults. More catapult positions are planned on the wall above the entrance.

industry.png

The smelting and forging industry is currently stalling due to lack of wood.

shopping%20mall.png

The grand shopping mall. Well half of it. :) Another multi story hall is already under construction. Will be much grander and will eventually become the center of the fortress.

The king is on it's way soon, but I'm worried about the booming cat population that's hard to keep in check.

Stupid question, but how do you train dogs? I have stray dogs with no owner walking around, but when I built a kennel and selected train war dog or train hunting dog they failed due to "needs trainable animal".

You also have set some your peasants to Train Animals? It's probably just a matter of timing, as the job tasks at the workshops aren't 'smart'. Set some of your peasants to Train /Take care of Animals and next to no other tasks. Eventually their tasks will reset and they'll get the job done.

Yes, I have people on train animal, but I am not sure what I actually need to do. I have stray dogs running around, but nowhere near the kennel. Actually, the only thing I've done is make the kennel, set "animal trainer" on and set an order. Is there anything else I've missed?

Drinks are always my problems. I can never have enough barrels as my stupid dwarves always use em to contain all the plants and meat I have. Puppies and kittens make good food for dwarves.

All you need is an animal trainer, kennel and stray dogs. So it should work. Unless for some reason the dogs have the "trainable" tag disabled.

Cool, a DF thread! DF broke my civ addiction. Of course, now I have a DF addiction in its place. :crazyeye:

On war dog training, are they full grown or puppies? You can only train them when full grown and set to unavailable from the z->animals screen.

I haven't played in a while due to college but I can say that drinks and barrels are easy problems to fix. If you are in a wooded area, you will have no problem. Set big stockpiles for booze only, and set the number of barrels to use in it. Always have woodcutters, plant gathers and carpenters working non stop. If you do it right you won't need to use all your food crop to make booze and your Dwarfs will always have variety. I even played in a desert one time and had a over a thousand booze before I had 80 dwarfs. Remember, the only thing caravans are good for is booze and wood if you need it. :)

Okay, my severe lack of DF has given me the itch. I haven't played DF in like two versions now, but tonight I am going to start a community fortress in All Other Games.

Well, a new version is coming out soon, with broken save compatibility, just to let you know.
