Starting up the game for the first time on Steam (PC), and I get the question if I want to run it with DX 12 or Vulkan.
Which one should I take ? What's the difference ?

I TBH do not know why this option even exists. I thought DX12 was the standard. Please try that one first.
Vulkan is more modern platform independent graphics API. DX12 is only for microsoft products.

I would estimate that Linux port is Vulkan only. AMD, nvidia and intel supports both on Windows.

Apple Macos could be using vulkan too. But I am not expert on that. Edit here: Propably not. Apple and Vulkan (Khronos the dev) are not that good friends still.

My initial test notes on Windows 11.
Vulkan 1-2GB less gpu ram, c. 10% more load for CPU. 10-15 % worse fps.

DX12 Less cpu, more gpu ram, more fps.

Stability: no problems in either.

I'm on Windows 11
Specs: i7, 32GB RAM, 4070 Super (12GB VRAM)

Using DX12 just crashes the game every 2 minutes. Not a single crash in 14 hours of play with Vulcan, and excellent performance.

vulkan is made by amd so amd gpus with freesync displays will see smoother gameplay. dx12 crashes to desktop sometimes when loading into new eras but not on vulkan.
