I've been playing C3C for a couple of years now, but for the first time ever for me on the IBT, I saw a notice that said something sorta like, "Our artillery died from disease in the jungle." I lost 2 arty that way. Ok now, people/units can die from disease and arty can be captured, but it seems very, very strange to me that a hunk of steel can die that way.

I wish I'd been quick enough to get a screenie. Has anyone else ever seen this?

I've never even seen anything die in the jungle, although I know it can happen. Does this mean the people needed to service the artillery died of disease?

Never even heard of it before, I have had units die in jungle back in PTW. I guess it got rusted.

All units can die if left in the jungle too long. Units are more than just the machinery, they include the troops that fire them, and maintain them. SO I guess the troops died, and left the hardware to rust ....

I guess you're right about the troops that fire them. RIP poor arty. :(

Yes, jungle can be quite... unpleasant. I one time lost my entire Medieval army because of it (I had like, 7 pikemen, 4 medieval infantry, and 5 knights) All of them gone! Because of the jungle. Evil!

And aren't they supposed to not die in jungle? So they can clear it?

I remember reading the manual ages ago that units could only die if they were fortified...

I remember having it happen to a knight in my first full game, actually.

    In 2000AD.

Quite so, there are many things that can lead to the "death" of a unit. Disease for humans/animals, and/or rust/corrosion/animals eating up the wiring (like in the German tanks in Stalingrad) making them effectively worthless.

I've only had infantry units die in the jungle.

Does this happen in floodplains, too, or only in jungle?

If it happens in floodplains, does the chance of this happening stop when you have learnt "sanitation"?

I lost a blessed army in the jungle one time, and I swear it was not fortified - just passing through
