Here are the units I've been working on for DyP:
First up...
Camel Rider
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads5/Camel_Rider.zip
This is the Camel Rider... meant to be an early camelry. Based on a picture of a Moorish camel rider.
Second:
War Camel
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads5/War_Camel.zip
This is a Saracen War Camel for the Middle Ages. Great for Crusade-era mods and scenarios.
Third:
Mamluk (Mameluke)
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads5/Mamluk.zip
The always famous mamluk, mameluke, mameluk, however you choose to spell it...
They were slave soldiers in Egypt who eventually came to be the rulers. For some reason, in Arab cultures, giving slaves weaponry was not contradictory to common sense, and it worked pretty well too. This Mamluk features a Bow and Sword animation because they were trained in both. They would later use gunpowder weapons, but there's no animation for that . But I may make one in the future.
Fourth:
Bedouin Raider
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads5/Bedouin_Raider.zip
This is the Bedouin Raider. The Bedouins have been around since far back into antiquity, and they have harassed many of the great Middle Eastern empires. This unit is based on a photo provided by Kal-El in his request for the Bedouin Raider. It fights dismounted and fires a mid-19th century rifle, but it could also be used for earlier times since the rifle doesn't have a great deal of detail at Civ-scale. Nonetheless, I think I may do one with a carbine, and possibly have it be mounted.
Fifth:
Elephant Rider
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads5/Elephant_Rider.zip
This is the Elephant Rider... it's not particularly faithful to any one ethnicity. I borrowed a bit from a number of elephant-using cultures, but its mostly meant for the Indians. The elephant itself was based off an African Elephant model, but I've made it slightly more generic by altering some of the features.
Sixth:
Elephant Archer
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads5/Elephant_Archer_(Fixed).zip
* Fixed a palette issue that was causing civ-specific colors to appear in the armor. If you already downloaded this unit, you may want to do so again.
For those of your who tuned into my preview thread some time ago, this unit is no surprise to you... It probably would've been done much much sooner if I hadn't started working on the other five units here .
This is an elephant archer. Most of the time, archers were used on top of elephants because its a lot easier than giving them a lance and telling them to use it effectively from that height. The riders are based on Indian military uniforms of the age, but the armor is something more typical to what the Greeks or Carthaginians might have used. This way it can be used for almost anybody, though its really meant for the Indians.
P.S. I'm going to make an Indian foot archer based on the archer here, but the tunic will be civ-specific, not white.
Well, that's it folks! Enjoy...
Note: There will be more. I'm making another nine camel/elephant variants as fillers between the Horseman/Knight/Cavalry slots for DyP. There's also a tenth unit I'm working on... very specific, but very cool. I'm not going to ruin the surprise though.
