Earth 1000AD and the Medieval Age v3.00

BtS 3.17 compatable!
Uploaded on January 30 2009

Welcome to the year of 1000AD. Here you will be able to play as the Sung (Chinese), Holy Roman Empire, Mongolians, Vikings, Fatimid Caliphite, Byzantines, Scottish and many more. You will be able to fight in the crusades or try to live up to the Mongolian legacy. There are many other challenges that you will face, some of which are, keeping your empire and defending against the Mongolian Hordes, build a strong and long lasting Islamic empire while conquering Europe, conquer the Americas while defending against European invaders, and conquering the known world and maintaining a standing government.

Whats happening in the World:
The year is 1000AD. The Vikings are attacking and plundering Europe, while they explore and settle North America. Elsewhere the Arabs are trying to maintain there empire while fending off invaders. And in the far East the Koryons and the Khitans are in a struggle for dominance, while the; Sung, Khmers, Japanese, and Tu-Fan empires are flourishing and begining to explore the west and establish trade with European Civilizations. And in the Americas the Mayan Civilization is dwindling but still trying to establish a long lasting form of government. And in Africa the Bantu tribes are begining to establish trade with the Arabians, while setting up settlements and developing technology that will help them survive the test of time.

Scenario Description:
"1000AD" is the starting date of this scenario. I have civs placed with cities and techs. This is basicly a picture of what the world looked like in 1000AD. "The Medieval Age" is refering to the events that try to make the game go more historical. Their are new events like "Mongol Unity" and "The Crusades". "Mongol unity" establish's the Mongolian Horde. And "The Crusades" calls for the recapture of the Holy land. It uses an SDK that allows for 40 civs. Currently I have 37 civilizations which makes "Earth 1000AD and the Medieval Age" one of if not the biggest scenario ever made for Civilization.

Future plans:
For version 3.00 I hope to add at least 1 new civilization which the Aboriginal Tribes of Austrailia. I also want to add new events that go up through the medeival age and help shape history by directing wars and vassal agreements. I will also assign trade agreements between nations. Remake the tech tree so it only stretchs from 1000AD to 1500AD. And add units and biuldings that historically were used at this time. Make it so throughout history your leaders name, animation, and attitude change to help dipict the leader that ruled at that time in history (I'll probably put one well known leader for every 100 years for civs, this way every hundred years the game will have a major turn in events). It will also make it more fun because you could have super relations with a leader but then a new leader steps in your relations could drop drastically. I also hope to get custom leader heads for all the leaders in the game. I'm also planning on making a "Europe 1000AD and the Medieval Age" that will be a map of only Europe. And I am also working on a giant earth map a bit delayed but still going, when it's complete I will transfer my current Earth 1000AD map onto it so we have a bigger playing map to use.

New Units
At the moment I have 7 new units!
Mongolian Camp;
Stength 10
Movement 1
Hammers Not buildable

The Mongol Camp gives a random chance of receiving a unit. Every terrain gives a different percent chance. Here is a list of what Terrains/features give and at what chance:
-Grassland: 50% Keshik, 5% Spearman, 10% Archer, 2% Camp
-Plains: 25% Keshik, 15% Spearman, 10% Archer, 10% Camp
-Hills: 5% Keshik, 25% Spearman, 50% Archer, 2% Camp
-Tundra/Snow/Desert: 3% Keshik, 3% Spearman, 3% Archer, 2% Camp
-Forest: 5% Keshik, 50% Spearman, 25% Archer, 2% Camp
-Jungle: 5% Keshik, 15% Spearman, 15% Archer, 2% Camp
-Floodplains: 25% Keshik, 10% Spearman, 5% Archer, 2% Camp
-For everyturn that the camp doesn't move the chance that that camp produces a unit is increased by 1% until it has reached a maximum of 15% or 25% for creation of camps. This is reduced to zero everytime the unit moves or produces a unit.

Mounted Flailman; Cost 100, Strength 8, Movement 2, Withdrawal Probability 20% and it also has a 35% bonus against Melee units on it.

Pikeman; Cost 100, Strength 6, Movement 1, and it also has a 100% bonus against Mounted units on it.

Light Cavalry; Cost 75, Strength 7, Movement 2, and it also has a 25% bonus against Archery and Melee units on it.

Heavy Cavalry; Cost 85, Strength 9, Movement 2, and I also put a 25% bonus against Melee units on it.

Light Swordsman; Cost 40, Strength 7, Movement 1, and it also has a 10% bonus when attacking cities on it.

Version Info

Changes and updates that were made in version 2.50.

I've added 5 new civilization which include: Khazarian Empire, Kingdom of Zirid, Scottish Empire, Swedish Empire and the Volga Bulgarians. The Khazarians now own the once barbarian cities; Sarkel and Balanjar. The Kingdom of Zirid now control the previously Umayyad cities; Tunis and Tripoli. The Scottish Empire is in control of the city Edinburg. I renamed the Danish to Norwedians and added the Swedish which now control the city Uppsala. And the Volga Bulgarians now own the once Barbarian city Bulghar. I removed the city of Whitby and added the city Edinburg one plot above it. I also renamed the city Wales to Caerleon. Changes and updates that were made in version 2.25.

I renamed the Tu-Fan leader "Shenzong" to "Bhaskara Ravivarman I" for improved historical accuracy. I tweaked the plague this way it should never last past 1450AD. I added two new civs; the Khitans, and the Malaysians. The Malaysians now control the once barbarian city Borobudur and they have warriors and workers throughout the nearby isles. As requested I changed colors on civilizations to make it easier to tell them apart.
Changes and updates that were made in version 2.00.

I renamed “Kingdom of Aksum” to “Makurran Empire”, renamed “Seljuk Turks” to “Ghaznavid Empire”, renamed the “Olmec’s” to “Toltec’s”, and I also renamed the “Arabian Empire” to the “Abbasid Caliphe”.

The Tu-Fan Empire is now in control of “Lhasa” (Which was previously Barbarian), it is now their capital. Their leader is “Shenzong.”
The Kingdom of Armenia is now in control of “Manzikert”, it is now their capital. Their leader is “Landolf VII.”

I changed Ghana’s capital from “Tombouctou” to “Koumbi Saleh.” I renamed “Maceman” to “Flailman”. I also replaced some units in Europe with the new units I added. And I put new Great People in the unit info’s this way you don’t have Moses in the 1300’s. I renamed the Makurran’s leader from “Germa Seyum” to “Simeon”. I’ve revamped the techs this way the Makurran’s don’t have drama over the Europeans. I also shifted the relations this way the Europeans civs like the Holy Roman Empire therefore making them vote for them for the leader of the Apostolic Palace. I also changed the civilizations Civics this way the Chinese are ruled under a Caste System not Tribalism. While play testing I saw that the Fatimid’s were invincible, by the fifteen hundreds they had grenadiers and were in the Industrial era so I gave civs that progressed to fast a higher difficulty level and the ones that progressed slower a lower difficulty level.

New Events!
Zebra 9 added three new events for us! “Blizzard” in North America is used for keeping the Danes from prematurely exploring the Americas. It adds a chance of destroying the unit if it ventures to far from “L’anse aux meadows” (the farther the unit ventures the larger chance the unit has of being destroyed) or “L’anse aux meadows” could be destroyed. In the 1300’s the plague is unleashed upon the world! When it hits civs it plagues their empire for 4 turns and every turn it has a chance of destroying population in the cities that have been hit, during this time the civs you are trading with and border have a chance of catching the Plague! Note you can catch the plague any amount of times! While the Plague is destroying your empire you can devote money to researchers to help you find a cure for the plague, if you do this you can build a building called plague cure every turn that you have the plague until you gain immunity to it. Once you’ve found a cure for the plague you have 100% immunity to it, and other neighboring empires can learn from you making it easier for them to develop a cure. And he also made an Arabian Peace event that stops the quarrels between the Hoysala Dynasty and the Ghaznavids therefore allowing the Ghaznavids to be the Seljuk’s and conquer the area.

my first suggestion is rename the scenario from Earth 1000 AD to "navyseal Earth 1000" or something. I have three of them already in my default BTS scenarios list. I can't figure out which is yours.

Lol, I had the same problem.

Otherwise, great job! I can't believe what an improvement you've made to it! :goodjob:

Two problems with the Capital

During the Sung Dynasty, Beijing was not the capital of China, Kaifeng more south and inland than Beijing

2. Bagdhad was the Capital of the "Arabian" Caliph

Well a cool scenar...

impressions so far;

I play with 3.03 patch and it is running great (knock on wood). I chose France and I am up to 1775 on normal speed with Warlords difficulty (it defaults to Chieftain only).

I am glad because I think I would have got my butt kicked hard if I had chosen a higher difficulty. With only three cities its tough to stay up in the tech race.

I got called into the crusades early on. I really wanted to go conquer jerusalam, but I gave up on that idea for now.

Instead, I focused on crushing the danish. I now control all of the danes lands except for Ireland. I decided that it would be more costly to control and they would not capitulate.

my culture has almost drowned hamburg, but looking at the insane number of troops Germany has, I would never survive an onslaught from them. I think they probably built no buildings just units.

I am also bearing down on the Kingdom of Leon. I am hesitant to just invade because I am afraid Hamburg or England will attack me. However, I really want their cities.

I went to the new world in the late 1600s and founded a small city on the coast of the spanish main. i guess its not fair to exploit the fact I new there would be oil down there, but I wanted to ensure a supply of oil.

I am now really unsure of what way to take the game. On the one hand the new world is ripe for me to come in and simply walk all over these fractured indian tribes with their bows and arrows and my muskets. I tend to avoid that in BtS because of the high corruption that occurs when you have countries overseas. Especially since Europe is so wealthy...

Love the events and the scenario so far.

Fiend777Fits how big is your computer, like how many GHzs, how much RAM, and what operating system are you running. I know that when I would test the events for it, it went a little slow. And my computer isn't a slow machine.

So, how is this different than the 1000AD scenario that came with BtS? Are you just upgrading on that or what?
Well It's not an update of the one that came from BtS it's a complete remake of the Vanilla version.

I'll probly rename it to "1000 and Medeival Age".

Yea, their still on my todo list.

1.8ghz, 512 ram, windows xp.
i know it aint much... but ive ran these huge world scenarios before. they took forever to load, but never crashed in initialization. the standard 1000 a.d. scenario works just fine. how many units did you add to the scenario [navy seal] and what patch were you running when you created it?

Well I'm not patched up, and it worked for me. So that shouldn't be the problem. How many times did you try to get it to run?

I have just downloaded the scenario and gave it a trial. I actually intended to download it few hours after it was there but I got busy then.

First of all I'd like to thank you for such a nice piece of work. It is sure fun to play it.

So far I have one general remark. With the techs already known to players it is a matter of a few turns before the Middle Ages are actually over. I conquered the Byzantine Empire (Playing as Arabs), and I captured Athens using Grenadiers. Of course I was in the Industrial Era then. So if your intent is to present the high middle ages with the Crusades, and the Mongols invasions as central events I think you may need to adjust technologies a little bit. You may need to prolong the game adding some turns and adjusting the speed.

Some remark about history in the scenario. There has never been an Arabian Empire in the sense introduced in Civ4. El-Qader was an Abassid Khaliph. So you may better call it the Abassid Empire. Aslo by 1000 AD, Egypt and Jerusalem were ruled by the Fatimids. It might be a problem adding yet another civ but actually it will serve another purpose. By 1000AD Muslims in the middle-east were weak due to their fracture. The only notable Islamic power in the region were the Seljuq Turks. (They have reached Asia minor by then not like where they are in the scenario). Anyway, a fractured Islamic power in the region would give more challenge as well as being more accurate.

One last note. The turn speed is quite good so far considering it is a world map.

you guys are gonna think i'm so stupid. i didnt even have warlords installed. curious though, how other bts games worked fine, including the standard 1000 a.d. scenario.

EDIT: alright warlords installed now. and it still crashes. changed the .ini so it would create a dump file, and now it makes it to the player setup part and freezes. not sure where the dump file is located at. but i found a file named pythonerr2.log in the log folder:

Yea, I definately have some stuff to balance. I didn't get much play testing in before release because I made the scenario in a week!

Yea, I didn't get all research done in time thats why there is still Shaka.

This is a BtS scenario you don't have to have Warlords installed to play it.
