Earth 1000AD and The Medieval Age [BtS]

Do you have a "Earth 1000 AD..." mod folder inside the "Earth 1000 AD..." mod folder? (If so Cut & Paste in the main Mods folder; then you can delete the - now empty - "Earth 1000 AD" folder you cut it from.)

So I put the download inside the 1000AD that comes with the game? Sorry if my incompetance at downloading aggravates anyone.

Jeelen you're right- I discovered that when you unzip the download it creates an extra folder layer and this causes the mod to crash.

ByzantinePerson- you don't want to put the folder inside the original 1000AD folder that comes with the game. Instead you need to put it inside the mods folder that is inside the Beyond the Sword folder. Then get rid of the extra folder layer (as Jeelen describes above) and you should be good to go.

The game still crashes. I found the what I beleive was the extra layer and deleted it (There were two sets of configuration settings, exactly the same). It seems not to be working. Anyone care to point out what it the extra folder?

That's not I said: if, after downloading and unzipping into the Firaxis\BtS\Mods folder you have inside the "1000 AD etc." folder another folder named "1000 AD etc." cut/copy that folder into the main Mods folder. Only then can you delete the first folder as redundant.

Some comments on the mod itself:
- Kiev Rus/Kievan Rus is how the first Kiev/Russian state is generally referred to
- the capital of early Hungary wasGran
- the capital of Bulgaria was (and still is) Sofia
- Cracow would be better as a Polish capital
(though this would leave Poland and Bulgaria without a port, obviously)
- Ghanese Empire (or rather Kingdom) is the name for medieval Ghana
- Po Ngbe is (used by Civ Gold mod for) a Toltec leader
- barbarian Galleys don't seem to move
- the Plague is really annoying (even more so than in RFC, where you can change Civics if you see it appearing somewhere) and I'm not sure what "Plague Cure" is supposed to do (except cost money); though it's certainly true there was no cure for the plague until bacteriology in the 19th century, people's instinctive reaction of isolation of the sick was actually the best that could be done (perhaps Plague Cure should be renamed Quarantaine?). But it appears so often that changing Civics would be disastrous as a remedy and population growth is virtually non-existent for centuries on end...
- when trying to load a Save Game the mod went straight to the Select Civs screen.

I like the added civs, though they don't strike me as being a viable playing option - except perhaps the Tibetan empire.;)

I'll leave it at that for now.:mischief:

The Barbarians never really seem to do anything! :crazyeye:

It helps you create a "Cure" to prevent it from spreading back to ya!

Yea I told it to do that in the .ini to make it easier for people.

Most of them are just to balance, but in the next release (soon) I'll put some "real" civs in there.

Also is anyone still needing help? And do you know if all the events are working? I ask because I actually uped the wrong version!!!

Well, then it's not working... I've had multiple consecutive Plague events - and I always spend cash + research on that "Cure"!

Not easier if you want to load a Save Game...

No help needed, everything works (Plague event is a sure failsafe against plagiarizing!)... maybe upload the right version? (Appreciate the reply!);)

I know what to do, how to do it, and where to do it, but I can't even find the unzip option. I don't even know if I have zip, though chances are I probably do. Pretty lame. In fact, so lame, that it's not even funny.

You need to either remove the Plague feature or fix it!

I've had nothing but plague events, non stop, from 1300's to 1700's, at which point I gave up with the mod. The "cure the plague" thing seems to be a waste of time (maybe it limits the population losses, but even then it's hardly a high point in the game). Very frustrating at the very least.

If he didn't put the version I'm thinking it is you'll never get the cure. The code works but the odds of getting is next to impossible, we had made a version with a tweak and it worked.

I will get the python fixed this weekend then upload v2.25! Also I almost have the Mongols done and if you know of any wars at that time I'd appreciate it because I haven't had a ton of time for researching them.

This is an excellent scenario! Love the amount of detail put in already. Maybe you could have an option to disable the tech tree at a certain date to keep a bit more realism & keep the game in the medieval ages or just after?

One thing though, Landolf VII & Mahmud of Ghazni seem to have the same cultural border colour? Mahmud has yellow pop numbers & Landolf has white but thier borders both seem to be green

I'm probably going to make my own tech tree for the scenario and have the game set up so it ends in 1500AD!

I'm making a release this Thursday hopefully so I'll fix the color bug! And I have the Plague already fixed and I'm going to add the Khitan civ!

What's "the CTD"?

And just to keep ya busy until I get the next version up I released Mesopotamia Here! Enjoy

Excellent! I really enjoy this scenario already so im looking forward to any improvements! Having an end to the tech tree adds a good balancing effect once evryones on a level field at the end as well.

I just uploaded v2.25 which adds two new civs: Khita, and Malaysia. I also fixed the plague, and the colors for the civs. Check it out! Enjoy! Screenies at the download area.
