Earth 2020 - A mod/scenario of earth in the present day (for Gathering Storm)

A scenario of earth at the present time. Take command of a modern nation and lead it to glory, or destruction. Will you awe the globe with your culture, achieve the impossible by bringing harmony through diplomacy, indulge your bloodlust and conquer an empire, or leave it all behind as you colonize other worlds? Or will you sit idly by as others leave you in the dust? Find out how you stack up against the major players of today.

I am surprised there are no posts here on civfanatics, looks like most people are commenting on Steam instead. Anyway, the first thing I noticed was the absence of EU capital Brussels. Even on Huge map there is no enough space between Hamburg and Paris, but perhaps if you swap Humburg for Frankfurt and move Paris a little you can fit in EUs capital?

Second thought was -- where are the Wonders? New York without SoL? San Francisco without GGB? Rio without Maracana (the only Wonder buildable from the start). I know Firaxis made it very difficult with stringent Wonder restrictions but there have to be some ways for you to use some workaround.

Yes, for Civ6 most people have moved over to Steam for both downloading and commenting on mods it seems. I still post both places, though, since CivFanatics is a better forum for discussing things long-form than the comments threads on Steam.

To answer your questions:
  • Even though Brussels is the capital of the EU I do not feel like it needs inclusion on the map, as the main reason it is the capital is to provide a neutral location for the big powers to meet. There is not enough room on the maps to include everything, and I don't want the maps to feel too cramped (especially with the 1UPT and districts of Civ6).
  • Unfortunately there will be no more wonders added on the map. I know of no way to add wonders via script, and Firaxis removed the ability to add wonders via world-builder (it had been there, which is why most of the vanilla wonders are on the map). Also, even if the ability to add wonders comes back, I would probably not add the R&F wonders (such as the Statue of Liberty) just so that the scenario could remain available to as many users as possible (a lot of people seem to have skipped R&F).

I was able to run this wonderful scenario (one of the very few custom made scenarios for civ6) with 100 other mods. It took me days to resolve conflicts, but I finally did it. Using autorun I let it run for 120 turns to get some forecast on World's future in 2029. It was with a big satisfaction that I discovered that UK's AI has built the Tower Bridge in the very spot it should be .

The White Sea–Baltic Canal (Russian: Беломо́рско-Балти́йский кана́л, Byelomorsko-Baltiyskiy kanal, BBK), often abbreviated to White Sea Canal (Belomorkanal) is a ship canal in Russia opened on Wednesday 2 August 1933. It connects the White Sea, in the Arctic Ocean, with Lake Onega, which is further connected to the Baltic Sea. Until 1961, its original name was the Stalin White Sea–Baltic Canal (Belomorsko-Baltiyskiy Kanal imeni Stalina).

The canal was constructed by forced labor of gulag inmates. Beginning and ending with a labor force of 126,000, between 12,000 and 25,000 laborers died according to official records,[4] while Anne Applebaum's estimate is 25,000 deaths, and accounts of up to 250,000 deaths in the works of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

I did not know that canal existed. It looks like IRL it's currently too shallow for ocean-going vessels, so I won't add it to the starting conditions, but it's cool you built a version of it in-game. I am a bit surprised the Russians haven't gone back and made it deeper, but perhaps it's not cost effective given its length.

Your mod is the only reason i still play civ 6, great work! Will you update this to the new monopoly and corporations mode?

I second this!

I do want to add the corporations feature into this mod, as I think it's a perfect fit since large corporations play such a major role in the modern world. However, preliminary investigations seem to indicate that this will have to be done with a mod-mod, rather than rolling the update directly into this mod (due to the way the data is loaded). I intend to do that at some point, but no promises as to when.

New Preserve and Diplomatic Quarter districts are natural fit for this mod. But it is my understanding including them is too hard?

First of all thank you for this great mod.

A couple of cosmetic feedbacks:
  1. Correct the names of the oceans/seas (if possible).
  2. There is a "stray" tile owned by Hanoi, that leads to an exclave when conquered by China:

Can I also agree that this is an amazing mod and one of the only reasons I play the game too.

I would love to see the game include mods that allow for non-traditional warfare. Like mercenaries or terrorists from the older versions, nations use spies and special ops to do covert actions without declaring war. This was captured a bit in the great spy and cloaks and dagger mods in CIV 5 but is missing again from This version of the game.

would be open to discussing what this should look like?

Does someone have a compatibility file for the city lights mod? It would make the game even more immersive.

I tried to play with them but they are not compatible with Earth 2020 and maybe they are the key to add the monopolies and corporations mode.

Hi,Stephen. I managed to play successfully with monopolies and corporations mode using your scenario. My strategy was using your huge earth map in worldbulding only with the modern civs mod and then saving the map as my own. In this way a could add the monopolies mode as if i were playing a normal game in gathering storm, but i got a problem: all city states disappeared. I was wandering if you could help me on that.
