So I have tried playing with both the Standard and Huge sized Earth scenarios/maps that came with the game, and in both cases the starting locations for the civilizations is random. America doesn't always start in North America, Egypt doesn't always start in Africa, England doesn't start in the British Isles, etc. I'd like a bit of historical accuracy with this, even though I know the European civs will end up killing each other off (which then will allow me to swoop in and decimate the last one standing! muhahahahaha!). Anyhow, my point here is that the civs don't start whey they historically and accurately should.
I did some searching, and I found Marla Singer's 1.29 map (https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/final-earth-map.9829/), which I downloaded and then dropped into the Scenarios folder. Unfortunately, when opening it through the editor, I get the error that it isn't a valid map. So I did another search and came across a post on how to edit the actual civilizations in their starting locations (https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/frequently-asked-questions.52360/#post-957093). However, when I right-click a tile as shown in the 3rd bullet point, I don't get the menu that is displayed there. The only options I have are to turn the grid on/off, clear the tile, or delete the player starting location. Even when I have Overlay selected, nothing. I've tried Alt/Ctrl/Shift and right-click...nothing. I've gone through every F key on my keyboard, all the number keys...nothing. I've gone through every menu option in the toolbar...nothing.
Have I done something wrong? I know that my copy of Civ3 is old (I got it in college way back in the early 2000s), so it's possible I don't have the most up-to-date version of the game. Which would then indicate that I don't have all of the available options. In fact, when I check the version...I have 1.07f. Which yeah, tells me that I don't have the latest version. Told you it was old!
Anyhow, is there a version of Marla's map out there somewhere that has the starting locations mapped out? Is there a way in 1.07 to set the civs yourself? Or am I doomed to just having to deal with them being random?
