Exactly 45 years ago, on April 30th 1975, elements of PAVN 324th division began final assault on Saigon.

At around noon, T-55 tanks forced the gates of Presidential Palace, seizing the heart of Republic of Vietnam power and putting an end to Vietnam war.

This is therefore a good time to revamp a nice scenario originally designed and released by El Justo

All credits of scenario inspiration and design go to El Justo. I tried for long to contact him again to get permission to re-upload it with some changes. While my attempts to catch up with him had no success I do believe he would not object this, as long as credits go to him and to other units and graphic creators.

A detailed credit list and a changelog from original scenario are included in downloads

You can find scenario download here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/fal1i5qv58va48i/The_Vietnam_War.zip?dl=0

NOTE this is a direct link. It seems I have trouble in setting up this through Download DB.
Just follow the ling, ignore any pop-up about Dropbox account that may come up, click on download icon in upper right part of window and choose direct download. Please try and let me know if you have any trouble

Please be warned that there are still some unfinished parts and some graphs, pedia description to be added or completed. No promise I will find time to do this but I’ll try and, will upload here any update
Also, please note that images posted here does not show Balthasar's Vietnam Interface, which is instead included in download files.

I hope you’ll enjoy

Hm, I'm sure you made a good work, BUT
forced to signup or sign in to dropbox perhaps isn't the smartest way. Better if you kept it on an easier place.

Then even after getting into to Dropbox I get this "The folder ‘/Public/The_Vietnam_War.zip’ doesn’t exist."
Care to have a look at it ??

I have been waiting for El Justo or someone else to make an update to this gem for years.

However, I also tried to get in and got a message saying the file doesn't exist

Sorry Guys. This is the first large file I upload to the forum . When I tried it apparently worked fine without any log-in request.

I have now updated first post with a direct link. Please let me know if it works.
I'll try to find a better solution with another file hosting platform.
Of course, any suggestion is welcome

I just tried the link and click on the download arrow and it wants me to sign up. I am pretty sure I played this way back when. I know I played AoI 1 and 2. I would not mind playing them again, but do not want to plow through to figure out what is the proper pieces. I still have AoI in my folder, but I suspect updates are missing. I was waiting to see, if Civinator would get things organized. Now that is not looking so good.

do not use download button in download database. Please use direct link on first post.

Hi, I only see one link. It goes to dropbox. There I see a 242.25MB download. I also see (on the left side) some files. A 531 byte readme and two biq files of about 65k.

Thanks for posting this it is very cool.
I have been lurking but created an account to say thanks.

I just returned to playing Civ 3 after years and years. Is there some reason I can't move the aircraft carriers? I want to recon the south extremity of the Ho Chi Minh trail but the capable aircraft on the carrier are not in range to do that.

Additionally when and where do I get the US special forces units? Right now most of my infantry units are South Vietnamese who can't see the guerillas.

Thanks!

Hi vmxa

I tried to explain this in first post but here is a (hopefully) better attempt.

If you follow https://www.dropbox.com/s/fal1i5qv58va48i/The_Vietnam_War.zip?dl=0
you should open a window inside dropbox scenario folder. What you see onscreen is actually the content of file The_Vietnam_War.zip.
Sometimes (for reasons I do not know) you get also a pop-up window like the one in first picture attached here.
Image1.jpg
If so just click on x in its upper right corner to close it.

In any case click on download button (the one with downward pointing arrow) and select “direct download” as shown in second picture attached here
Image2.jpg
This should let you download a zip file that has to be unzipped into Conquests/Scenarios folder

I hope it works for you.

Hi herecometherats
And welcome to CFC forum.

I have not modified any part of original scenario gameplay as I do not want to change the overall design of someone else (see El Justo thread ttps://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/scenario-the-vietnam-war-deluxe-1965-1975.222604/)

Version I posted here has only changes in 3 areas:

- bug fixes,
- completion of missing parts (such as civilopedia contents)
- graphical upgrade of unit, terrain and interface

For more detailed reference I attached here a file with list of changes. There is a copy buried into "Add-on & Credits" folder in my download but I noticed it has some typo...

According to original scenario design, you cannot move carriers and escorting units because these are set as immobile units (This was probably to done to better balance the game).
As game progress, new advances will allow wonders or improvement to produce improved version on new navy planes, with greater range and payloads.

At the beginning of game there are some pre-placed special units, both US and South Vietnam. For instance, US Ranger fireteam in Ban Me Thuot, US Green Beret Company in Pleiku, Kontum and Dak-To or ARVN Ranger Company in Dak-To and Dak Pek.
Like many other units in this scenario, all special forces units are not buildable and are auto-produced by some wonder or improvement. Look at civilopedia for reference. In this scenario civilopedia can be accessed trough FM (Field Manual...) button in main interface window.

Thanks so much for the clarification!

the carriers are immobile to create the effects of Route Packs , where USAF and USN divided North Vietnam into zones of operations where each service had priority . Jets "occupy" a lot of air in combat , rescue assets are rare and can not be kept in readiness all the time , stuff , stuff . Accordingly , while they had the range to attack Hanoi , Navy planes usually had Haiphong as the biggest baddest target , while Air Force kept out of RP 5 (of which Haiphong was the center) mostly and did what it did in RP 6 , meaning Hanoi and environs , up to the Chinese border .

Awesome work wolf! I've successfully downloaded the mod. Can't wait to revisit this old masterpiece. I also tried contacting El_Justo to get permission to submit a re-worked The Cold War but he never answered.

Tried to run this from the download supplied by wolf_66 and ran into a problem. There are many missing icons in the Art/tech chooser/icons folder that cause the scenario to not load up. I have the ability to place dummy .pcx icons in that folder but there are so many of them.

Not sure if anyone has these files but I'll shelve this scenario for now.

will look up , think ı have it available , can load a zip of the folder in question on Monday . ls that the full adress / name of the folder ?

edit: ı have just noticed this is not the original thread but an update . Civ_66 says he didn't change things in many places and ı have to say ı have the original version and will still upload the stuff if necessary , though many probably have them .
