What's your opinion?

[I'm not offering any information because I want you to look up stuff YOURSELVES for once :p Anyway, the short of it is that they are manufactured by a private company, not subject to federal oversight, full of bugs, have no paper trail, etc]

before throwing a hissy over the punch card ballots which everyone else knows how to use. :devil2:

You don't care to link us all to the conspiracy sites you visited? ;)

Ah, anyway, this is a serious issue. But after watching both parties and 4 presidents come and go, with no tangible change in policy - from my perspective - and after being told point blank why Colin Powell can't be elected, ballot tampering seems a moot question.

The Terminator was designed to be the ultimate killing machine...

The Voterator was designed to be the ultimate voting machine, replacing the need for people to bother with choosing which descendant of apes conducts press conferences ;)

The problems of these machines are an occasional topic at Slashdot. Besides the bugs, you run into risks of someone gaining control of the system and inserting their own code. The best solution to both is to require the source be open and examinable by all so potential exploits can be spotted and fixed quickly.

Touche, Lindstrom! But when they refuse to opensource their machines, much less allow federal oversight, and you know there can't be any recounts [other than simply calling up the results again], well, you start to wonder.

Give 'em a ballot paper and a pencil and several slaps.

I'm with Simon on this. Have people write down on a piece of paper the office and their choice of candidate to fill that office. If somebody can't write due to arthritis, let them do hunt-and-peck on a typewriter.

Here in Brazil we're using electronic voting machines for almost 10 years, with very good results. The outcome of the election is known a few hours after the ballots are closed.

Your voting system is obselete ;)
