i've talked about this in long form elsewhere, but -
- that someone says they're not a nazi is literally not proof they're not. even these days where we have people storming the government treasury
- nazi/fascist is often used interchangably; it's clear he's going fascist as in alt-right (heiling, doing blood and soil speeches to afd, explicitly promoting like unequivocal white supremacists on twitter - and i don't mean "the left has structurally clocked that this guy is a fascist" white supremacists, i mean unequivocally white supremacist people)
- i don't think it's his personal conviction. i think he feels indifferent about it, and pretends to be a fascist to garner cool kid points.
- elon has a real issue with personal stability in himself and a sense of belonging. we know that from working with him, that even the days he did humanitarian/futuristic/green tech, he literally did so because he wanted to be special. he wanted to be the guy that saved the world. everything else came second.
- as his incapabilities and weirdness and cruel leadership style slowly revealed itself to the world, he lost support. he's even lost the f gamer crowd, which doesn't matter, but he cares.
- his craving for approval is not only all-consuming endeavour, it's also impossible, because it's not enough for him to be special, he wants to be the most special, which is impossible to begin with but particularly so with his limited skill set and obvious constant personal crisis
- plus ketamine
- now the only people that accept him, because they accept everyone, is fascists. "don't they hate jews?" "what if you're black?", nono, that's not how it works anymore. also reminder that the nazi party itself, which was particularly antisemitic, in contrast to the italians, had plenty of jewish members before them purges started happening
- therefore he can now be the most special with nazis
- therefore he does salute
is he a nazi? in regards to conviction, i don't actually think so. in regards to action, i mean, yea? how else would any other reasonable person interpret that?

Consider that it might actually be useful to identify and stop them before they do all this
One would expect that if you are a nazi, you at the very least have a belief in some type of communal supremacy. Nothing in Elon implies that he cares about any group - even billionaires or whatever he may think he is.
If I had to guess, I'd suppose that he did the salute due to being a clown, or without realizing how it would look, and likely it was a combination. He is the type of person to then double and triple-down. There's always the non-zero chance that he actually thought it would be a brilliant idea to get some group to support him (nazis) - which of course would have been a really stupid idea, as it would rile up far more people against him.

Regardless, it seems that only historical, reanimated soldiers of the Third Reich will pass your specifications, so I honestly don't think anyone should try and convince you differently. You're free to your opinion, and everyone else is free to respond.

The first time I heard it, I looked around, saw all the corruption and legalized corruption and lack of regulation and thought.. "hmm reallllllly? are you sure?". Jewish people were gased and burnt the same no matter the motivation of who denounced them.
Regardless of his reasons, the end result is that Elon Musk sponsors far right politicians everywhere and that he owns the most influential network among journalists at global scale. That's what matters.
