Elon Musk: Force for anthropic advancement or self-serving con-artist?

ok so this sounded like another "elon buys something for way over price and plummets his wallet" to me, but looking up openai, apparently valued at 80 billion, so it's not an unreasonable markup

still it will be bad yea
It will be considerably better than waiting for the inevitable collapse of Tesla. He can still hype up ai and dupe followers like he was doing prior to the twitter purchase - which, regardless of the economic loss and exposure, has him in control of one of the main social media.
Of course this is Elon, so the end game would be the analogue of an exit scam.

The thing is, with the government (or at least guys like Trump and Elon, no longer clearly separable from the state as such for the time being) actively getting in on the frauds and grifts that inflate the various bubbles, we are in pretty uncharted territory bubble-wise. Perhaps its penchant for grifts and scams will be what causes MAGA to implode in the end? Bubbles have to burst at some point...

Why did species #7264 die off? There's evidence they began exploration of their moon, so that's the myster.... wait. No. I think we have a general idea.

There's a war currently going on on Tesla stock: some people apparently don't want it to collapse.

2% swings are volatility?

Different life perspectives are fun to see.

That's only the last 30 minutes.
Surely I'm not an expert, but the stock was at $210 on Octobre 23rd, then rose to reach $480 on December 17th, and is now falling again to reach $345 currently.

A 2% swing can mean massive gains :)
People (gamblers) routinely try to make gains on around 0.5% (and typically have disastrous losses).
Many videos online of their ilk parting with enough money to sustain them for over a year, while speculating for a few seconds on a swing.

Oh, I know, I just usually don't think about it.

Different markets are different. I can see how that'd be significant to a safe, stable, boring crossection of the world.

Tone policing myself: that's a little pejorative, but not much. Safe, stable, and boring isn't really an insult anymore than "may you live in interesting times" is well wishes.

Wake me up again at 20%. This is getting gud.

There were very loud rumors for a couple of weeks that the current government would push him out - which they can do with grave financial impact, due to controlling subsidies and bonuses for (low)pollution credits (which Elon was selling to others for a considerable sum).

What is even more cringe is Rogan fanboy'ing about Elon.
Rogan quote, with censored curse term - so cover the eyes of those in kindergarten.

Apparent Rogan is a bought dumb**** at this point?

Not sure about the bought stuff, but the rest seems legit.
But people can become fanboys and log off their own logic, given some conditions. Which itself doesn't mean he can't be going senile regardless.
From videos online, he has been in the fanboy mindset for a long while when it comes to Elon.

That's a very nice way of saying he might have been cheap.

Money is an illusion and a conman like Musk knows he can just convince people he's ‘worth’ however many bazillion dollars when even his assets aren't.

Who the crap comes up with these valuations?

That's probably still twice what X is really worth
My malware blockers don't let my browsers load that, but choxorn's quote does load it as plain text. Interesting.

Leaving aside how utterly insane most of this is, it's not as if being super rich can't make you want to steal more money, because plenty of rich people just want more, more, more, at any cost, and however much they have is never enough- indeed, I'd say that it's impossible to get even 1% as rich as Elon without having some kind of pathological addiction to hoarding wealth and doing whatever it takes to amass it. So of course someone like Elon would steal everyone's money, given the chance.
