Embarassing question

Alright, I just started playing again once I got warlords and I have one question that I never seemed to figure out on my own when I played before. How do you know what techs a GP (Great Person) will research? I know that they each research techs similar to what type of person they are (ie; prophets: religious techs, scientists: science techs etc..), but I guess my real question is: How do you know what techs to research beforehand in order to jump to a high research technology (if that makes sense)? Thanks.

I believe Masonry is higher on the Prophets list in Warlords.
