    Fast response from Lord Parkin:

...and my ever-so-witty reply. Seriously, I can't be held responsible if I'm going to be doing all this on my own!! :old:

I'm considering helping out by doing Saturn diplo, having reasonably good relations with Lord Parkin (aka Emperor). But the vacation has made it pretty much impossible to keep up. ;)

    Good response, peter.

I was just going to post this. Thanks HUSch :)

I'll say it again - I am extremely busy with work, and I will be for the next couple of weeks. If the game doesn't seriously slow down, I don't know how involved I'll be able to be

I went ahead and sent this reply. Sorry if it's not really what we want to do, but I figured we'd better get some kind of letter in the mail or we'll end up outcasts. I put some disclaimer type language in case the team decides to not go so far, but I'd really like us to have good relations with all the teams.

    What can we respond with?

I'd rather not let it get out that our team has close to zero participation: that could set us up for getting piled on!

MC is supposed to come to The Triple Alliance from SANCTA, no? In that case, I think it's in our best interest to let Saturn expect to research it themselves: this will keep them weak for a very very long time

The trick is to let them read into our response something that isn't there.... so that when they discover that we already have MC, we'll be able to point to this letter and say 'Not our fault'.

    Proposed response:

Again, our deep apologies for the delayed response. We tried to get one out on the same day, but not enough voices had weighed in before now.

We agree that we should work together on tech, but, as you noted, since neither of us has Alphabet yet that makes current trades impossible. Our immediate priority is domestic affairs. As such we don't plan on researching Alphabet any time soon. But after Calendar, perhaps we will, at which point we can nail down some trades.

Have you already approached Kazakhstan regarding the trade for MC and Archery?

Did we receive the previous messages? Do we have someone checking our email? I suggest we write back immediately. I may be way off in our diplomatic goals, but something like this might be OK. (And ANY answer is better than no answer at all):

    Hello Saturn,
We regret our delays and our intermittent communications. We have been understaffed at diplo HQ of late, and are trying to keep up with things... but your messages seem to have gotten overlooked. We will endeavor to respond in a more timely manner to all diplomatic missives in the future.

Although your offer of cooperation in research goals was received enthusiastically, the game has progressed since your specific offer was made and is not attractive at the moment. We regret that we must decline your offer at this time, but look forward to finding mutually beneficial agreements in the near future.

    Warm regards,
    Mad Scientists.
