Embassy with "Die Küche"

To keep the guys on our continent a bit more backward...

We could also trade in smaller steps and look, how things develop.

So that we can use off-shore technology to give us better units when we decide to Clean Out The Kitchen.

Friendly or not, our neighbors are right now looking in their recipe books for Roast Eagle, Baked Eagle and the ever popular Le Aigle Sur Pain de Seigle.

EDIT
Cross posted with Calis.

A lot also depends on what country Kuche is. Since our unique unit is the dromon, it is much better used against the other continent. If Kuche has an AA or early MA unique unit, confrontation with them may not be the greatest option. We could even prepare a joint invasion plan where our dromons provide safe passage for their (and our) land units...a well placed backstab in tha situation could win us the game.

CharlemagneXLII has a point. At the begining of the game a "rule the seas" strategy was the plan. Now we are going to use our fire-breathing Galleys to transport technologies abroad? The Admirals will not be happy...

The Kitchen will not be a problem. Maybe binding ourselves in a long-term treaty is not the way to go.

I will tell them that we will come up with an answer soon regarding the Iron Working for Philosophy. I do not have much time before my vacation to create something.

I will just play the current turn and then someone has to take over until (including) April 30.

I am back.

This was in the embassy thread in Civ Forum on April 27:

----

Dear "Sweet Feather",

some prototypes of new ironskewers reached me. Their production is still quite ineffective and they tend to rust making them not very worthy. But soon those problem shall be finished.
As i heard from home there are now problems with a lack of motivation. Some kitchenassistants peel only half as much potatoes as they can and are needed for a proper running of kitchen. Even cold soup has been served! Chefkoch is not amused. He intents to install a system of gratification and punishment. Extrem laziness may be punished by cleaning a big room only using a small toothbrush leading to an effective decimation of laziness. As soon as iron working has reached an acceptable progress developing a code of law will obtain priority.

Best wishes,

yours sincerely "Grillmeister"

Now we know that their next tech would be Code of Laws.

Considering the fact that we have met the Brotherhood, what should we do now regarding tech trades. I would bet that the Brotherhood is already researching Republic.

I think we now have to decide where this relationship is going. We could have them research other techs (mapmaking, literature...) as we go straight for the republic, but that would require a commitment to a more long term trading agreement. Are we willing to do this? The payoff could be quite high, but we'd be more or less locking ourselves into a kind of tech partnership with them.

I think that if we were to enter a long-term tech trading relationship, it should be with the Brotherhood. This is because they will likely end up researching faster than the Kuche, and they do not share our continent, and are hence harder to attack. We could probably raze a couple key Kuche cities given a few dromons and archers.

As mentioned in the new Strategy thread, short-term we have two options with pros and cons:

a. Trade their Iron Working for our Philosophy.

- pros: 1. They will not get suspicious against us. 2. Well, we get Iron Working (swords)
- cons: Die Kueche gets closer to Republic

b. We do not trade with them. (Pros and cons are the same as above, just the other way around.

Considering diplomacy, I am leaning towards trading.

Here is a proposed letter, I'd like to post in the embassy over at Civ Forum:

Dear Grillmeister,

We are glad to hear that your efforts on creating iron tools are making progress. We are surely interested in the arts of shaping iron. We do really hope that you do not intend to build bird cages out of iron. We would not be amused ;).

As to your inquiry; we would happily offer our knowledge of Philosophy in exchange for your art of Iron Working, as soon as you mastered its secrets.

Please give us some time to think about further trades.

With best regards,
Sweet Feather

Comments?

I wonder if they can shape iron to match the shape of that hat at the royal wedding?

This one came to mind...

From Kueche:

Was wünscht ihr?

Viele Grüße,

Dear "Sweet Feather",

we wonder why you need even more time. Maybe it has something to do with these seafaring Knights? They like to philosophize and they also own a code of law already. In combination with the halting approach of the Eagles this lowers the inducement to make efforts into developing an code of law for ourselves. Because the knights have the option to trade with the fourth party in this dinner, trading with them seems unwise. We do prefer a coordinated research alliance between Kitchen and Eagles. If we put code of law and the republik on the table you may do so with mathematics, literature and construction. Based on iron working, greater kitchens may be build.
Unfortunatly we do not know anything about the Eagles research efforts. We do also have no clear picture about your intentions. What do the Eagles wish?

Best wishes,

yours sincerely "Grillmeister"

Interesting! I think we should stall on them until the Brotherhood gets back to us, and if they refuse, we accept. It might still be a while until we meet Anarchy, and we don't want to be too frosty and obviously bent on destroying them early on.
