End of the World as we know it.

Whatever the reality and importance of those volcanic eruptions, any associated darkness wasn't the reason for the moniker "the dark age", which was coined by Rennaissance scholars quite unaware of the importance of atmospheric dust.

Needless to say, there's no such thing as "being due" for asteroidal impact. The chance of an impact of a given size is equal for any year, regardless of whether the last one struck yesteryear or millions of years ago.

I never joke about catastrophic volcanic eruptions/earthquakes...

But, my POINT was... that this type thing (that particular one being very minor in the grand scheme of things, btw)... happen consistently on Earth. And we're about due for a 99%-of-life-on-planet-killing disasterous meteor strike, cataclysmic volcanic eruption(s), earthquake(s), etc. That really should be more of a concern than anything, as far as something that could/would wipe us out.

Thing is, we can't stop that meteor when it comes, we can't stop that volcano from erupting, we can't stop earthquakes from happening...
But we can change how we use the natural resources just in case there isn't a meteor in the next few hundred years, although it's very hard :)
