19Delta, hopefully you will get out before the civil war starts.

No kidding... our soldiers, after doing all that we are grateful to them for, have to come home to a bunch of people trying to create a New World Order (yes, it's not science fiction anymore), void the constitution, purposefully crash our currency (as was made to happen in Britain and other countries, and is trying to be made to happen again) and who knows what else.

<shrug> I'm moving to Texas or Alaska.

Anyways, stay safe 19D; we appreciate what you do, and Hope you guys win!

One wonders these days, why called 'Civ3 - Creation & Customization' these forums be…

I'm not trying to start another discussion here, but I will take this opportunity to weight in on this particular issue. I have spent about 5 months in this place now. This place definitely makes you appreciate what we have in America a lot more, especially when you go out into sector. Right now I have a squad of Iraqi soldiers that I am responsible to train and make sure that they can do the job that we have been doing for the last 8 years or so. People underestimate these people and say they are stupid. While I will say that some of the things they do is a little strange, to assume that they are stupid is a mistake. I can't really speak for the rest of this battalion that is here for this training, but as far as my squad goes, I can't be happier. Sure they are a little rough around the edges, but they came here and they have a real commitment to train and get better so they can take over our jobs when we leave at the end of this year. I don't think this place will devolve into civil war in the future. My worst case scenario would be Iran backs al Sadr and helps him take control of the government here and he sets up a state similar to what Iran has. The Iranian clerics will be calling all of the shots. If there is a civil war, it will be between the people of Kurdistan and government of Iraq. I would sat that the Kurds have a special place in my heart now. They are not like the rest of the people in this country. They actually care about what they are doing here, and are making a concerted effort to get better at what they do.

You really can't begin to know what's going on here unless you have actually been here and interacted with the people. The news only shows what makes us look bad, and they only give a small percentage of the facts. Here is the reason why this country is divided. This is coming from an officer in the Iraqi Army by the way. When Saddam was in power, he did everything he could to keep this nation divided and the different factions turned against each other. This secured his power because now the Iraqi people could not unite as a nation and rise against him. He kept the various factions in check with his sheer brutality in how he dealt with this people. Saddam's regime committed horrible atrocities during its reign. Everyone knows of the gasing of the Kurds, but here are some things you didn't hear about, and the national media neglected to tell the American public. There was a village of about 12,000 people. An Iraqi Army convoy was passing through, and a lone civilian that fell on hard times shot at it with an AK-47. Saddam's Army came back to the village, dug a hole, killed every single man, woman, and child there, and threw them into the hole and buried them. There was a 9 year old Iraqi boy that was arrested by Saddam's army for something. I can't remember exactly what his name was or what he did, but he was tortured for 5 days. Before he died, he gave his name (which was a common Arabic name) and where he lived so that his body could be returned to his family. Saddam instead sent his army into this city and killed every child that lived there that had the same name as the boy he tortured. Now that you know a small fraction of what went on here prior to us being here, how do you feel? Do I like the fact that I'm over here away from my family in harms way? No, but I do think it was necessary. These are just two examples of what the media didn't talk about. They have a political agenda too, and if they had've informed the American public of these things, I think there would be a whole lot more support on the home front.

I don't think that our Constitution is in any danger either. Too many Americans own guns for that to happen. There was a survey done somewhere in 4 ID about a scenario like this. I think it was something like 90% of the unit surveyed said that they would desert before they would fire on Americans. If the rest of the military mirrors this mindset, then it will be pretty hard to take our freedoms away. Americans are arrogant as hell when it comes to something like this. We would burn this country to the ground before we would let someone come in here and take it away. Then there is that little problem of 80% of the members of the military coming from the former members of the Confederate States of America. If you take into account all of those factors and the general distrust of the government, I don't think that a power grab would have a snowball's chance in hell of succeeding.

There I'm done.

Agreed. I will leave it at this. I retract my previous statement. If you want to know why, just check the new additions to my signature. For those of you who have a religious belief, please say a prayer for the brothers I lost yesterday.
