Epic Speed, Standard Size

Is this wimping out? When I played normal speed and standard size war was just about impossible thanks to units being obsolete by the time they got to the enemy.

What's a good balance between map size and speed? I'm just starting to try immortal but don't want to advance if the game settings could be more challenging without being impossible.

No, it's not really wimping out, but you might be making wars easier for yourself as you already noticed. Standard map is already way easier than larger ones for this anyway though - so in the end just think about if you're having fun. Good luck on moving up to immortal, it's certainly not impossible and your settings are very good anyway (popular, balanced enough ones in the community after all).
