Error 1706 when installing patch 1.52

Hi,

I have the ATI graphic problem. When installing the patch, after the install bar hits 100%, I get an 'Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Sid Meier's Civilizataion 4. The Windows Installer cannot continue.'

After that, when I go into the game, it says its @ 1.52, but the black map with just the rivers and the characters still remains.

Could it be that the patch didn't install properly?

I have the game installed in the default target, and the game disc is in the CD Rom.

Please help. I have a laptop, Sony Vaio Z1 w/ updated ATI driver.

i think you get the error no matter- i had same thing on two installs- but it up'd it to 1.52 anyway
try updating your xml- through your web browser if you can- especially if your using mozilla firefox- its easy to do.

Thanks. Still doesn't work.

I've tried everything. Patch, Windows update, graphic driver update, reinstall/install everything. Spent the whole night doing it.

Still the black background. What a waste of time and $$. I dont' think I can even exchange it for another game. Now I'm stuck with a box and a useless DVD.

I used to love the Civ series, but this one has really taken my confidence away.
