it would be humerous but it works.

research map making
get a trireme and send some settlers to small islands . it would help your civ from not getting destroyed in the early stages . let your escape cities not be coastal.

Why not just put your effort into not being destroyed?
I've never lost more 3 cities ever (including diety)
Could be my strategies as I am militarialistic.
