Espionage Error: Spies vanished somehow

I'm 200 turns into a huge deity game and espionage is failing. I had 5 spies and I went into a new era then all the spies vanished when the game added a 6th but it still shows their icon in the cities I had them in.. Its like Civ 5 can't hold more than 5 spies but I Googled around and found a picture of someone who had 6 spies so it must be on my end. Any ideas?
