Another annoying thing about Vamp Castles is that they don't accumulate resources under them. One time I had Aluminum show up under a Vamp Castle, and I had to remove it in order to mine the Aluminum. This is usually the case for all (most?) improvements, but Vamp Castles are harder to set up, and tearing down a Vamp Castle can mean losing out on a lot of yields too.

Sleptwalked to a Turn 210 Science Victory on Deity with Menelik II. I needed to do a better job of setting up my main Spaceport city, the Double Goddard project bonus exploit may have been fixed, and I had about 2 dozen turns of misalignment. Goofed and settled a few cities not on Hills. Just ran a Faith economy throughout buying Settlers, Builders, Units and Districts. First time with Voidsingers and they are an Ethiopian match made in heaven.

Being forced to tear them down and rebuilt for better yields is one thing (unneeded tedium), but exploiting this (e.g. by replacing surrounding tile improvements with districts after the castle has been built) another.

He also said vampires do not get strength from their own kills, which is also wrong.

It is much better this way, than just pure melee units.

You are not likely to do that, though, seeing as they are some of your best tiles.

    • Magnificence Vampiress Catherine (since... Vampire the Masquerade. Ba dum tss)
    • Hermetic Kristina
    • Voidsinger Jadwiga

Coming next is Black Owl Queen Catherine and Vampire Scythians (i couldn't properly enjoy the vampires with Catherine since i wasn't warring)

Do anyone else get rng-ed vampire appareances everytime they load their savegame btw?

Vampires gain nothing from GDRs or planes. They do gain from faith bought units though, which makes Lahore really, really good for them.

Finally the Vampires have invited me after vanquishing 6 barbarian outposts. You might say they were as bloodthirsty as me

God, Menelik's loading screen line is so bad it makes me cringe.

"YOU WILL BUILD ALLIANCES AND RAILWAYS!"

Well, I wasn't planning on it, but if Boromir commands it...

I haven't gotten around to trying it and don't know when I will, but I find the addition of vampires and secret societies really disappointing from the standpoint of a Civ fan. It falls into the category of "stuff for the sake of stuff" that I already didn't like about Civ 6. It feels like cutting-room floor ideas that were cobbled together to nurse one more expansion out of the game. Maybe I'll check it out down the road someday. I know it can be disabled and maybe it's super fun, but it's the idea that bothers me most.

Based on what folks seem to give bigger value towards, it feels like Code of Laws should give a governor title (but if that happens, Secret Society initiation should be changed to no longer require nor consume a governor title).

It's kind of amazing to blow the budget on a guy like Sean Bean, and then seemingly not have thought about what the hell he's going to say until the day before recording it :crazyeye:

Whatever, I usually play without audio the majority of the time to listen to a podcast anyway :shifty:

As someone who enjoys governors but doesn't use Secret Societies, this is a change I would wholeheartedly embrace.

This is obvious, but the Minerva sect works so well with the abilities of the Cree (already probably my favorite civ), especially the +1envoy for trade routes to city states considering their early trader. And the bank replacement means there's actually a decent reason to build the bank slot building. I find myself putting that building everywhere considering my tendency to put a commercial hub in every Cree city anyhow, using it more than I do must civs' actual uniques.

Of course it still doesn't solve my main issue with the Cree; which is that I find myself so wrapped up in building the impressive trade route engine that I often never get around to, you know, actually closing out the game.

I've just finished my second playthough as Ethiopia, and I find they are very well balanced without secret socities; because of the start bias the capital will have the most hills to place your churches on and get the most science and culture from his ability; other cities can still be founded on hills but I found they tend not to be able to build as many chuches (but still a good number of decent ones) to assist his faith production (which is wonderful with a classical golden age monumentality) and to purchase units with the GM's Chapel. I've fallen in love with his faith purchasing of both archeological museums and archeologists meaning you don't need to wait around for 20-30 turns each to build them (on Epic speed for me) and are more reliable then great works of art!
Far too powerful with the Voidsingers secret societies though; the Medieval bonus can propel you to rediculous heights and run away with the game.

Can't remember if someone posted it already, but being member of the same society boosts alliances:

This is just further evidence for me that secret societies are a reskin of their implementation of ideologies as a future game mode/free content update.

But why would they use governors to implement ideology? Loyalty and Religion seem better systems to re-use for that purpose. And a 0.5 modifier to alliances seems straightforward to me.

Governor promotions are essentially the social policy trees of V. Ideologies in V were the endgame mega-policy trees. I could easily see the Ideology civic giving you a governor title, and unlocking the 3 ideology 'governor trees': Individualism, socialism, and totalitarianism (or whatever).

Whoever picks a specific ideology first gets an extra free governor title like in V, and otherwise they function similar to how the secret societies are implemented now. Hopefully idealogical pressure and an option to swap ideology like in V makes it in as well (tourism desperately needs to do something).

Aren't the late game ideologies just the tier 3 and tier 4 governments though? Besides they already give some sort of diplomatic benefits and negativity including declaring an ideological war.
